    1. Hi ,I have only just joined the site ..so any help will be appreciated. My grandpa ...James Henry Walker born 1800 Leeds ...joined the Essex Regiment in 1900 at Worley has a private number 5795,he served in many places and in 1915 he was made Sergt in 1918 he was taken p.o.w and his wife Mary was informed that he had been K.I.A. he arrived home at East Retford in late 1918..his wife having moved to East Retford 3 years before,he was then employed has a Railway Drayman...before he signed up he was a carman in Finsbury Park Islington,London. He was able to join the Essex Regiment ..because his mother had remarried and had moved both herself and her son to Islington upon her 2nd marriage ...James Henry was only 2 when his mother was widowed I have his full service history covering over 20 years and medal card ,what I do not have is a Photo..and his medals His medals upon his death were left to my mother his daughter Kathleen Walker, but when James mother died and the family home was emptied the medals disapeared only for them to turn up some years later ..they were sold to Dixons medals of Bridlington who in turn sold them to a ``collector of Essex memrobilia``...they will not disclose any other info has to whom the buyer was . I would love to locate these medals has I have never seen them and obviously to purchase them if they are for sale ..or to have a photo of them if this is not possible. I have over the years due to the reluctancy of Dixons even contacting the purchaser of the medals on my behalf...have placed numerous private ads in the Essex area and London and daily papers to no avail The curator of the Essex Museum has made a note to contact me if they come up for sale again regards Biz
