    1. Hi Greg Yes, I know of these too and Poland, Cuba, USSR. I think there may be some badges produced in the US at the time in support of the Lincolns too and most were made years ago and I consider these to be collectable. I wonder about some of those "issued" in Spain that seem to have only surfaced recently and are mainly sold by dealers in Spain. Most never mention when these were produced and almost all seem to have nice clean shiny ribbons. I will consider these to be repro or made to cover the market until someone can convince me otherwise. I'm sure that someone will prove me wrong Brian
    2. Hi Wood...I think there are plenty of photo's etc that show that there were insignia and badges etc. I own a lapel badge with the usual clenched fist etc that came from a brigader but I have never seen another one. Also a few medals circulate but my main question really is are these medals for real or something created by many years after to satisfy a market. I see a few on the bay sometimes that purport to be but I am not sure what to look for because there seems not to be much in the way of publication. It would be boring if it were easy I guess Brian
    3. Thanks very much TacHel - very helpful Brian
    4. Hi A long shot I know but please can anyone tell me where I may find details of a specific day in November 1914 where this regiment fought? I have checked online with SGA and the diaries for that period are not listed. I would like to try to find out specifically what they were doing, exactly where and casualties etc. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Brian
    5. has anyone asked him? His answer may be interesting. Its not me by the way!!
    6. Hi Rob I have found it very interesting as a French medal/document hoarder - excellent and thanks. I for one look forward to seeing more Brian
    7. must be more difficult to answer than I imagined!
    8. I hope this is in order on this forum but does anyone have any idea where I can find a site or other source that shows these medals/badges that are genuine period pieces? I appreciate that some were fashioned in the later years but nevertheless made for the purpose. I am only interested in those that were genuinely produced for the brigades and not those that are figments of someones imagination. I see many on the bay but most of those I suspect are restrikes or worse and those being offered as being worn by specific groups or bodies i.e nations, nurses etc etc I have yet to see actually worn by these people in photos. I am sorry if this offends any possible sellers of such pieces but I would really like to know of the genuine pieces that are attributable with a view to purchase. I have no interest in the facist/falange items at this moment. Thanks in advance Brian
    9. Hi Jens Thanks very much! - is the kriegsstammrollen a book or something from the web? Please excuse my lack of knowledge on this regards Brian
    10. Hi Scott - yes I read that item with interest, a mammoth task. I was hoping to establish by various marks at which period they were made as I am aware that these were still being made very recently. Thanks for your response to my query. I also have an interest in the medals of the International Brigades but again, many seem to be recent re-strikes and repros its a hard task to find good authentic medals. One or two *bay sellers have them at various times but I am unable to establish the authenticity of some of those too. Thanks again brian
    11. Thanks for the info - a bit concerned about the last one who according to the German grave search was killed at Douamont but there seems to be a mention of "Koytnica-Watyn" on the card. Thanks again Brian
    12. Is there a simple way of checking these medals as too the period in which they were made? Is there a makers mark or any other feature that I can look for? I have one that is definately not shiny and new looking that has a shabby ribbon. Of course I appreciate the ribbon may not go with the medal but just wondered if there is a way to check. Thanks in advance brian
    13. OK I'll try scanning - Photo's don't do them justice at the small size allowed
    14. Thanks for the replies - I will post some photo's but my previous experience was not too good as the photo's had to be reduced so much they were barely viewable. I will do my best and thanks agai Brian
    15. Hi..Please can anyone offer any help to place regiments to divisions in order I may be able to find where specific Divisions/regiments fought during the Verdun battle(s) I have a few sterbebild of men killed but would like to know a little more and this is a fairly recent interest (german) having previously concentrated on the French. I am aware of some downloads available but I am still not 100% sure of my findings so if there is anyone who can put me right, I would be very grateful KIA 3 August 1916 13th Inf Regt KIA 23 June 1916 201 res Inf Regt KIA 12 July 1916 1st Inf Regt KIA 12 June 1916 12th Inf regt KIA 12 June 1916 24th Inf Regt Thanks in advance Brian
    16. I am guessing I need to find out about Divisions and regiments before I get started. One of my cards is for a soldier from 13th Inf Rgt "killed in an attackat verdun" 1916 and they don't seem to have been at verdun at the time according to the list. maybe "verdun" is a general term for the larger region? he is buried at hautecourt-les-Brovilles
    17. Thanks Chris - the download og German Divisions would be very helpful. thanks again
    18. Chris..The query arises from owning a few death cards that give dates and units etc and often a vague description as you know but I wondered if a more precise location was possible to be found somewhere. Examples George GERSTL 13th Inf Regt 9 Komp killed on 3rd August 1916 in an attack at Verdun....Franz RESCH 24th Bavarian Inf Rgt killed at Verdun 12th June 1916....Florian ANGERSTORER Bavarian Inf Regt killed at Verdun 10th November 1917 (Buried Damvillers) These are but a few and it would interesting for me to research more if possible. Thanks as always
    19. Apologies if this is basic or the wrong place for this question but is there anywhere on line that I can search to establish exactly where a German unit were on a specific day in France during WWI - as war diaries for British and French?
