    1. Hi Archie, Again thank you for the pictures. One tiny remark, your picture of Bophuthatswana Prison Service Medal for Faithful Service (Silver) for 20 Years Service is the same as the (gold) 30 years version. You can see the same dots and marks on both versions. I'm so used to look for small differences on medals that I could not help but noticing 😉 Marcon1.
    2. Hi Archie, Are these of any help ? Distinguished Service Decoration - short tusks variety. Police Establishment medal - type 1 dark brown variety. Police Force Medal for Loyal Service Police Force medal for Faithful Service It's not much, but every bit helps. If you can use them, feel free to do so. Regards, Marcon1.
    3. Have you ever thought about starting a museum, you have more than enough material for that !! 😄
    4. Hi Archie, A few my own, the rest just pictures i gathered through the years for my own information. I wish I had them, but it's almost impossible to buy them these days at normal prices. Ebay is way to expensive - both in prices and postage. I used to buy a lot of SA medals (Incl. homelands and SWA) on BidorBuy (BoBshop) but most sellers these days will not send items through SAPO International Mail (which always took 3 to 3,5 months to arrive in The Netherlands - talk about snail mail !!) and SAPO is now bankrupt and having the medals send by courier is to expensive. You buy a medal for R150 and you have to pay R500+ for shipment - that is more than they are worth. And if that is not annoying enough, EU rules changed last year on small parcels being send from outside the EU and PostNL (because of customs) will now intercept all parcels and ask for declaration of contains (value) so that they can get money out of me = 21% of the value (tax) + a handling fee. Which makes it even more expensive. So my collecting is on a hold right now. Marcon1.
    5. Hi Archie, Here a few pictures of Venda Police medal variations you may not know of. (Note: Diff. position suspender - long and short tusks). (Note: Diff. position suspender - long and short tusks). Two full-size, Venda Police Establishment medals - type 1 and 2 with a corresponding miniature (no ribbon). 6. Hi Archie, Again, wow !!!! Question though - 3rd. picture of KwaZulu Police Star for Distinguished Service and KwaZulu Police Star for Outstanding Service = are those breast stars or something else ?? With thanks, Marcon1.
    7. Hi Archie, These are completely new to me. I didn't know that they had intelligence in Bophuthatswana (Service I mean, not that they were idiots). I only know of Defence Force, Police, Prisons Service and Civil awards. Were these ever issued ?? They are not on the 2005 consolidated table of precedence list. What about Ciskei, Transkei and Venda (the other 3 big ones) - do they also have Intelligence Service medals ?? Can't wait to get a copy of your upcoming book and see what else is in there. Many, many thanks. Marcon1.
    8. Thanks Archie, keep the pictures coming - great stuff. Much appreciated. Marcon1.
    9. Small part he says - understatement of the year 😁

Regards, Marcon1.
    12. Hi Archie, First picture - full size or miniature ? - if full size, damn I just turned green (of jealousy 👽). Did notice you have several medals double in the display - are there differences between them ? (for example: 2nd. row SA 2015 Centenary medal). If willing to share pictures you should also contact Megan (Medals of the World) - I'm sure she will be very happy to use them on her website. 14. Hiya, I've had this information (from Arthur Radburn) for some time: VPS Gallantry Cross (CPV) – Gold (1985-1996) VPS Gallantry Cross (CPF) - Silver (1985-1996) VPS Distinguished Service Medal: Gold (SPO) (1985-1996) VPS Distinguished Service Medal: Silver (SPM) (1985-1996) However, lately I found information (+ photo's) from 2 different sources concerning VPS Gallantry Cross - silver. 2nd. photo = (Add. info said that it has the correct ribbon !!) (The listing said SILVER, but looking at the picture it could also be the GOLD version) As both sources show the same ribbon (+ the add. info) I'm wondering if it is indeed the correct ribbon - does anyone know if I'm correct in my conclusion. And do the other ribbons then belong to the DSM (gold and silver). With thanks, Marcon1.
    15. Oeps, I did a Sweden search but nothing came up - this will teach me to stick to what I know 🤐
    16. Hiya, Not my collecting field, but still interesting for those among you who do collect Sweden. September 15, 2023 New anniversary commemorative medal King Carl XVI Gustaf's jubilee commemorative medal IV - sideways. Photo: Jonas Arnell-Szurkos/King. Order of May Carl XVI Gustaf's anniversary commemorative medal (IV) on the occasion of the 50-year government anniversary On the occasion of his 50-year reign anniversary on 15 September 2023, HM the King has instituted a new commemorative medal. The medal was established in court protocol on April 28, 2023 and is awarded to the Royal House, the Royal Family, as well as court officials and other permanent employees of the Royal Courts, as well as others who deserve it. The medal is embossed in gilded fine silver and on the reverse side is provided with Ernst Nordin's profile portrait of HM the King with five golden stars symbolizing the past 50 years, as well as two crossed spruce branches. The reverse side features HM the King's monogram, the years 1973–2023 and five golden stars. The medal has five corners, symbolizing the five decades, crowned by a royal crown and worn in the light blue ribbon of the Order of Seraphim with five gold stripes marking the 50 years of reign. The commemorative medal is manufactured by Svenska Medalj AB in Eskilstuna, where the toolmaker Stefan Siljemar has made the digital model for producing the medal. Great importance has been placed on the craftsmanship in terms of details of both originals and miniatures, which took place in close collaboration between the Royal Maj:ts Orden and Svenska Medalj AB. Great care has been taken in the design of the so-called Gustafs crown (introduced in 1952), where the cross of the cross globe is hand-filed, which makes the cross stand out clearly and the highly polished edges enhance the general impression. The band mountings follow old Swedish tradition: the men's band is folded straight, which makes the cross of the cross globe clearly visible, and the women's rosette is mounted with classic bevelled ends. The medal is abbreviated CXVIG:sJmtIV and 695 have been distributed. King Carl XVI Gustaf's anniversary commemorative token IV - reverse side. Photo: Jonas Arnell-Szurkos/King. Order of May Kind regards, Marcon1.
    17. Hi Megan, Some info for you. Transkei Police Decoration for Distinguished Service (c1985-1995) Insignia: A five-pointed rayed gold star displaying the Transkei arms on a blue roundel (obverse) and the words "Inkonzo eQaqambilileyo - For Distinguished Service - Vir Voortreflike Diens" (reverse). KwaNdebele Police Order for Distinguished Leadership (1987-1995) --- Never awarded. Presumably a.k.a. 'Medal for Most Distinguished Service'. Insignia: A circular gold medal displaying the KwaNdebele coat of arms (obverse) and the words 'Umsebenzi Weqophelo Elingavamile' (reverse). LP Star for Distinguished Leadership (1990-1995) Apparently never awarded. Insignia: A silver-gilt circular medal with an engrailed edge tipped with ten balls, enamelled green and displaying a ten-pointed star with a gold flame on a white roundel (obverse), and the Lebowa coat of arms (reverse). it's not much, but better than nothing. Regards, Marcon1.
    18. Hiya, The crown and central stripes on the ribbon would suggest Belgium. Which one it is, I don't know. regards, Marcon1.
    19. For Megan, Just noticed your listing of Republic of South Africa: Venda Defence Force Distinguished Service Medal. (As listed by Megan's Medals of the World) You have the 'wrong' medal - the correct one is as shown below the gold version. Distinguished Service Medal: Gold (1985-94) For exceptionally meritorious service and particular devotion to duty. Insignia: A circular gold medal displaying the letter V and two interlaced rings (obverse) and "For Distinguished Service - Kha u Fulufhedzea Mushumeni" (reverse). Distinguished Service Medal: Silver (1985-94) For outstanding service and devotion to duty. Insignia: Same design as the gold medal, but in silver. rough surface. smooth surface. Notice the different text on back compared with your photo. As for your photo - I have from 3 different sources that it is a Prisons Service DSM - but I'm not 100% convinced about that. So I have listed it for myself as UNKNOWN with the following photo's: Notice different position of suspender - what's reverse and what's is obverse ?? The reason why I think it may be a Prison Service DSM is because of the following info and Photo that I have in my listings. Full Size Venda Department of Prisons Distinguished Service Medal Gold (NOT Real Gold) Named to BRIG. T. T. NDITWANE. Numbered @ 12 o'clock 0100010 Numbered @ 6 o'clock 01. If anyone knows more/better - please let me/us know. With regards, Marcon1.
    20. Hi all, Just noticed Megan's latest listings of South Africa & Homelands (keep them coming 😄). I have this information concerning Ciskei Decoration for Merit: Ciskei Decoration for Merit (CDM) (1987-94) For exceptionally distinguished service to Ciskei. Insignia: A circular gold medal depicting the head of President Lennox Sebe (obverse) and Ntaba kaNdoda mountain (reverse). It is worn on a neck ribbon. Type: 1 A SCARCE CISKEI MEDAL FOR MERIT FOR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE TO THE REPUBLIC OF CISKEI. FRONT SHOWS PORTRAIT OF CISKEI PRESIDENT LENNOX SEBE -THE LATER MEDALS HAD A MOUNTAIN ON THE REAR - THE EARLY ONES WERE LEFT BLANK FOR A NAME TO BE INSCRIBED. Type: 2 Type: 2 No idea how many type 1 there are, but can't be many. Regards, Marcon1.
    21. Hiya, The dealer (SteveMilitaria) told me that it was a American friend of his who was working on this publication, but he did not give me any further information. So I/m still in the dark about it. Marcon1. Farkas, I do have the 2 publications mentioned above plus a few others.
    22. Hi all, Can anyone tell me from which publication these 2 pages are ?? They were part of the description of 2 medals by an American dealer on Ebay. Don't know who Archie Meyer is, could be the writer or just the owner of this copy. With thanks, Marcon1.
    23. Hiya, See Government Gazette vol. 477 Pretoria 11 March 2005 No. 27376 - Government notice No. 202. Here you will find the CONSOLIDATED OFFICIAL TABLE OF PRECEDENCE : ORDERS, DECORATIONS AND MEDALS (Incorporating awards of the Union of South Africa until 1961, the Republic of South Africa since 1961, the former Independent and National States and those instituted for the Non-Statutory Forces, up to 2 December 2003). Even they do not give all the information - so I can't tell you if it has any meaning. Marcon1.
