    1. :unsure:I have to disagree about the mini fourragere on the Yser medal. I am sure that there are some sellers out there who would add one to a medal for sale but these were allowed to hang with the ribbon and the medal. There is one on a medal bar earlier in this string.

Even Andre Borne in his book ?Distinctions Honorifiques de La Belgique 1830-1985? agrees and he has not been wrong yet in my mind.

That book was published when collecting medals was becomming popular.

I only have seen them in the small version on periodical pictures.

Can someone show me a picture before 1940 where it's being worn in the modern way: with a large medal or cross? I'm very interested.

    2. What the medal or just the ribbon and rosette?

      regards

      Alex

I ment the ribbon, If you want to buy a replacement ribbon and roset for your specimen. I mean that it will cost you more then one euro. For American and English medals the price of a replacement ribbon is cheap becouse the demand is high. For a knight of the Leopold order it is ok, but the roset is more difficult.

It has been a wile since i went to a medal company to ask for a replacement ribbon so I can't say how much it can cost. maybee there is someone else here who can help you out? If you want that off course.

    3. Hello Miguel,

Indeed a neat display ! OK, so the medals aren't mounted in the right order and the last one in the row shouldn't be there as the higher class of the decoration only is supposed to be worn ... it's still a delightful little group and prettily displayed !

      Cheers,

      Hendrik

      Miguel,

A nice group, which unfortunately seldom survive being broken up. As far as Hendrik's observation that "the last one in the row shouldn't be there as the higher class of the decoration only is supposed to be worn." He's correct, but as with many others, firemen often want to wear everything they have won. I have a similar group, with the same "problem". But he won them, and wore them...and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Thanks for showing them... and it is a nice display.

      FireMedals

My first reaction was the same: the order is wrong and the lower grade medal shouldn't be there.

But, this is a group that is displayed and shouldn't it theirfore not be complete and have all the persons medals in it?

If I should have a complete group and would display it in a frame I would place it in a portable way like it should be and under the bar the rest of his medals (the lower grade medals that should be left home during a taptoo)

    4. just picking up on this thread, I've not noticed this ribbon on any other awards posted. Does anyone have any info as to why mine has 2 gold stripes?, It appears to contemporary with the medal.

      regards

      Alex K

The ribbon with two gilded stripes was awarded to those who had shown extraordinary warservices. The same, but with a gilded star (with 5 points) was awarded to those who where mentioned to the "order van den dag" (dayorder?).

Is was bestowed in 1919 and in 1946.

    5. Are you guys aware of the trade the museum made in the 80ies? They trade a Gloster Meteor for a MiG15! How stupid can you be? After the fall of the cutain they could be bought for the weight of the alluminium. :speechless:

I realy don't understand why they trade or buy easterncounties planes, they better take care of our own patrimonium.

    6. Indeed Notre Dame du Lourdes. I had a uniform of them wich I striped and sold the insignia. (no worries the uniform was a civilian vest wich smelled after urine) The reason I bought it at a fleamarket was that in the pocket was a nice knight in the leopoldsorder and a French medal.
