    1. Hi I have Lt dR Friedrich Sievers listed two times in the DVLs. First time as Vfw in PVL22.01.1917, second time in PVL25.06.1918 when listed as KIacc. His unit then is listed as FEA 7 in one source, so no front-line unit I cannot find his promotion to Lt dR in MWB. He was born 15.09.1892 zu Eldagsen, Springe. I have not checked the BAMA file for Walter Vater, but apparently he had a long service in FAA 284. Gunnar
    2. Hi I dont why you are asking about information on him, as he is a well known personaly during last decade 🤨 As an "swedish" Nobelpreisträger etc. If you can afford to "drink" one Beer every month you can see that he have like eight files on ancestry.de which gives you all the information you are asking for. If you cant afford that small amount of money you can cheat as three months are free on ancestry.de 😃 Gunnar
    3. Hi Lew, Both his BAMA files were thin, the second Pers 6/226598 had his awards w/o dates: LFAbz*, Eis.Halbmond, EKII, vwAbz (he was wounded two times) and later FEK, so no EKI. *26.05.1915 Gunnar
    4. Hi The Eugen at right is rather certain Eugen Arns who spent nearly the entire War as Marine pilot. I have read his BAMA file. He was back at LFA J-thal at least from early Dec 1915. Eugen Arns was born in Kevelaer not far from Düsseldorf. Mvh Gunnar
    5. Hi It is strange as Vince pointed out. He was not qualified for the Er.Abz and he did not served within the Fliegertruppe. The award basically demanded three Years of service as front flyer. Is this kind of a joke ? or he awarded it himself.. Any way he served within the Luftwaffe several Years during WW2, but I am no aware that they during the TR had some sort of similar award, but I might be wrong. Gunnar
    6. Hi It was not allowed to wear two flying badges on the uniform, except if not wearing an Prußian/Bavarian together with an Bulgarian or Türkish flying badge. Nordmann was the commander of FAA 246 on the Macedonian front before he took over FAA 234. Lt dR Franz Kanzler served in FAA 234 between 25.10.1917 until 17.07.1918. The second photo is probably not from "one" FAA/FA, due its to many flyers on that photo. Could be a mixed of two units ? Anyway, interesting photos 😀 Gunnar
    7. Hi Also the date for establish nr 4 Flieger Erinnerungsabzeichen is wrong. To my knowledge the first were awarded very late 1915. I also have doubts about the date for establish nr 8 Fliegerschützabzeichen. To me the first were awarded late April 1918, so mid April 1918 fits better Gunnar
    8. Hi Alex, I only have the info on him from the Marine Ehrenrangliste. According to this source he served within two Marine flying units. But I assume you already have this info, as indicated by your question. Gunnar
    9. Hi Mattyboy It is interesting that Ludwig Siebringhaus signed this document as Hptm, because he already mid 1917 signed similar documents as Major. So apparently his possible promotion to char Major aD was retaken ? He died 1961 according to an reference at BAMA in Freiburg. I have been unable to find his exact date and location of death, anyone who can help ? Gunnar
    10. Hi Matty Lt dR Otto Hansen scored an aerial victory in FFA 62 in July 1915. For this he received the EKI in August 1915, but now he served in FFA 5. He did not receive the Hohenzollern so this must be another Hansen ! However he lster received the AR2ms. For the victory he received the EB (Ehrenbecher) on 24.12.1915. During WW2 he became an Oberst Gunnar
    11. Hi Mattyboy The signature should be Oblt Steppuhn. I do think his first name is Hugo who received the Hohenzollern award. Btw, FA 44 had become an Armee Flieger Abteilung around 1 Oct 1918, so the paper and Stempel is wrong. Steppuhn was leader of the Tagesstaffel. The unit "now" had over 20 a/c. I dont knew who took over after Heyder. Gunnar
    12. Hi again I just notice that the first commander of FFA 73/FA 41 was Hptm Ernst Denk. He did come FFA 55 🤨. So likely Hptm Denk took Lt dR Ernst Tiede with him when he formed the new unit . My thoughts now is that Ernst Tiede served within the following units, FFA 55,FFA 73/FA 41,AFP 2,Idflieg and later in FAA 285. Hptm Denk was the commander of FAA 285 when Ernst Tiede crashed to his death so he probably wrote his obituary. Gunnar
    13. Hi Dave, Excellent summary regarding the candidates Tiede and Tiedje to be HOH3X awardees. I have read the BAMA for Lt dL Hans Tiedje, no indication that he received HOH3X. The BAMA file for the Ace Fritz Thiede has by "mistake" info on the Lt x dR Tiede (P) from FFA 73/FA 41. He was reported krank in May 1917, and later he served at AFP 2 and Idflieg. He joined FFA 73 in Sep 1916, so unlikely an candidate. Did Fritz Thiede receive the HOH3X late 1918 ? Btw, the file for the Pour le Merite holder Hans Klein have documents from three different flyers with that name 😉 I agree regarding Lt dR Ernst Tiede (P) as he was long timer in FFA 55/FA 25. He is rather certain the officer who received the HOH3X on 27.01.1917. The mitgliederverzeichnis for Bund Bogohl from ca 1923 lists an Lt dL?* Tiedje as member. This society was for former flyers who had served within BAM, KG 2, BG 2 and BG 6 (basically same unit with different namings). From another source he apparently served in BG 2/11 (Bosta 11). *I do not have a copy of the original list, I only have an abschrift from someone who had the list. The original list probably have hometowns. The flyer who received the HOH3X on 22.01.1918 is probably him. I am doubtful regarding Walter.. Gunnar
    14. Hi Fz.Mtr Walter Gladenbeck hold the number 584-17, but he was an landflyer who started education to observer in mid 1917. Maybe he served as ground crew in I SFA before that..? Gunnar
    15. Great info Stefan 😀 I have some minor adds regarding his flying career despite that I dont have any good service record for him. In late 1914 he was in EFP 2 (renamed AFP 2 in Apr. 1915). Before Jun 1915 he did join the "Saxon" FFA 23. One of the most famous aviation units during the War. One of the books dealing with the later part of this unit says that nine Pour le Merite holders served within the unit during the War. However I can only find eight so far. In Nov 1915 he apparently took over as OzbV (Offizier zur besondere Verwendung) of FFA 23. And as you mentioned he was back as Adj in AFP 2 in Mar 1916. Later probably Aug 1916 he was transferred to stab Stofl/Kofl 2 as Adj. I have him in that function Dec 1916 and Mar 1917. He left as Adjutant of Kofl 2 in Febr 1918 and went either to an FEA or another AFP, I dont knew which unit. btw, I have an mysterious Rittm x Barth who was Kp leader at FEA 9 Darmstadt in Febr 1917. The only candidate I have is the Saxon Oblt dR (II Dresden) Alfred Barth from TrB 12 who seems to have left the Saxon Army during 1915 - 1916. I knew that the connection is weak 🙃 Have you seen any Saxon Rittm Barth ? One Rittm Barth apparently served within the Saxon Freikorps after the War. Once again, thanks for your help ! Gunnar
    16. Hi I have an pilot Lt x Beck who apparently served the entire War within the Fliegertruppe. Flugsport 1916 nr 8 reported that he received the Ritterkreuz II Klasse des Albrechtsorden mit Schwerten. Later promoted Oblt. I do think that he is the Lt Johannes Beck from IR 104 listed in the Saxon Rangliste from 1912 as Lt 18.08.1911. Oblt x, I dont have access to the Saxon MWB from the War. Anyone who can confirm ? or have any basic info on him ? Gunnar
    17. Hi Jeff Have you checked with BA Berlin-Lichterfelde ?. They have a file for him R 3901/102408. If they have a photo it is probably post WW1. As Dave Danner earlier said the chroniken for 1893 are still not digitized I assume the book for 1893 is very hard to find on Amazon.com and similar book sites. Gunnar
    18. Hi Lew, Nice with an original badge, these are very rare as less then 50 were awarded. No need for replacement badges as these were allowed for wearing also after leaving the Marine Air Force. Lew, I think that you knew that Gross-Foto-Haus had their studio in Magdeburg. A small hint might be the Kaptlt Otto Bertram* who was born in Magdeburg who received this award. But he is not listed in GMVL so no indication of being wounded. *it existed another Kaptlt Otto Bertram who was an Reserve officer with similar career, but he was not born in Magdeburg and no indication of receiving the Marine Erinnerungsabzeichen. The active officer Otto Bertram* was leader of several Marine flying units so it should exist fotos of him. I havent checked the "Chroniken" yet, but most Years contains photos. Does the uniform indicates this rank or higher ? Gunnar
    19. Hi If these Stammlisten also have those who were in the Reserve then I am interested in Oblt dR x Rüger who was promoted Oblt dR on 31.08.1918 (I Frankfurt a.M). He served within the Fliegertruppe during WW1, but it is possible he was an Flakman or Luftschiffer (all parts of the Fliegertruppe). He ought to have been promoted Lt dR late 1912 or early 1913. It is also a chance he started as an active officer. Mvh Gunnar
    20. Hi It existed an Fl.Ob.Mt Reinhard Weber who was from Erfurt. But he was apparently an observer and the photo lack VwAbz (Reinhard was badly wounded in an a/c crash). So some info fits, some not. Gunnar
    21. Hi webr55 The young Flieger-Leutnant Müller is rather certain Lt dR Hans Müller who have scored his 5th victory in late May 1918. However he was born 03.07.1896 in Etzel, Wittmund. He ended up with 12 victories until EOW. He is tricky to find in Post-War sources as he changed his name to Hans/Hanns Garrelt. During WW2 he served as Major dR. He was Dr, Dipl.Ing and lived in München during 1930s. Gunnar
    22. Hi Malcolm You will have a fair chance to find good info on Lt dR Robert Tüxen as he have an BAMA file in Freiburg. As I am not focused on Jasta pilots I have not checked that file yet. He was born 30.04.1897 Scheggerott, Schleswig. After WW1 until at least early 1940s he was living in Hamburg-Fuhlsbüttel listed with occupation Flugzeugführer (pilot). In 1930s he became a member of the Richthofen association (former members). He also served during WW2 and ended up as Major dR. I do think he was the Lt dR Tüxen from RIR 86 who was promoted Lt dR 22.05.1915 (Flensburg). He is listed in PVL 14.05.1917 as lightly wounded. The incident happened 30.04.1917, some source says he was a member of FAA 213 at that time but I am unsure about that. Mvh Gunnar
    23. Hi Dave, Regarding the Lt dR Tauchnitz in FAA 270, I am also rather convinced that Bernhard is the wanted man. He like many Saxons flyers do not have any BAMA or BA file. He got an "anerkennung" on 21.05.1918 published in the weekly Kofl 3. An anerkennung nearly always lead to an "higher" award for flying officers. For non-officers it nearly always lead to an extra higher promotion. For example Johannes Ziegler also from FAA 270 received an anerkennung in 02.1918 which lead to that he received the Hohx on 09.04.1918. Later on Johannes received at least one more anerkennung which meant that he was vorgeschlagen for the PLM. Gunnar
