    1. Hello Chaps. My new cross arrived today and as I promised in the last thread, here are some close up pictures of the mechanism for reference. Use them as you please.
    2. I had a case like that one with a Godet EK1 some time ago. Obviously couldn't say if the box was original to the cross but the cross was a wartime piece.
    3. You'd be forgiven for thinking that you had a penchant for skull and crossbones Robin.
    4. On the example you show Gordon, the outline of the oakleaves is visible on the reverse. I had a 1st class fake many years ago that had this feature. I've noticed that on most examples the reverse of the wreath is smooth. Is this a reliable indicator of fakes or do some genuine pieces also have visible outlines on the reverse?
    5. Very sweet looking lid Mike. Look forward to seeing more pictures.
    6. I'd agree. Are the catches quite crude looking and square section?
    7. So nice to have personal providence with something like this.
    8. That's a very attractive set, thanks for showing.
    9. I know Dave, I think it lasted about 30 seconds.
    10. Thanks chaps. Gordon, I've not heard that before about the possible breastplate fitting. Do you know what this speculation is based upon? Cheers, Glenn.
    11. I've been after one for a long time but have only just managed to get my mitts on one. I've handled one before and can't decide whether it's a thing of beauty or a madcap Heath-Robinson monstrosity.
    12. I've just secured this piece for my collection. It's not in my hand yet but when I get it I'll post some detailed pictures of the interesting bits if anyone wants to see them.
    13. John, I'm assuming 1 MGK is 1 Machine Gun Company. Unfortunately I'm told that Reserve Infantry Regiments are difficult to research for individual officers. I'm reliably informed though, that Reserve Infantry Regiment 214 was a Mecklenburg Regiment. Cheers, Glenn.
    14. Reverse with screw (plate is back to front to prevent scratching).
    15. I've just purchased this "salty" one for it's engraving. I'm going to leave it alone though. The obverse photo is a little dark, but the paint finish has seen better days.
    16. You can tell a Mayer spange instantly! Very nice piece. So rare to see a real combo, (unless you go on ebay of course).
    17. I'm always paranoid about trying to restore core's. A friend of mine uses the polish made for cast iron stoves, "ZEBO". It's got the consistency of toothpaste but non abrasive and he's made a good job of his. I tend to subscribe to the school of thought that says that if the piece is not in danger of deteriorating leave it. It is however each to his own of course.
    18. So annoying. How much are they getting away with? Forums like this have helped our cause but so many people must be sitting on a piece of crap like this having paid out money in good faith. I'd hate to be starting out again now.
    19. That is divine. As mint a cross as I've ever seen. Nice to see it's trapezoid catch box in lovely nick too.
    20. Nice collection. Interesting little box at the top left. Is it privately made or commercial? Cheers, Glenn.
