    1. Yes, I'd say Godet. Pin shape and core details look right to me. Very pretty!
    2. It's a surprisingly complicated subject. A lot of manufacturers were well known Jewellers, some were retailers, some dedicated to medal production like Klein and Quenzer who originally made watch chains. A definitive list is difficult to achieve as often a new or unidentifiable mark crops up or a cross that doesn't fit into the mold. SOme marks are open to speculation as to who they relate to. There's plenty of reference about and a lot of knowledge on this site ref. makers etc. George's link above, The Kaiser Bunker, is an excellent resource. Glenn.
    3. Yes, believe me they are on the list for a re-visit! If there's anything you're looking for in particular let me know.
    4. Great find Micha. Still one of my favourite makers. Interesting to see the subtle core variations.
    5. I'm going to Budapest again next week. We went 4 years ago and fell in love with the place. I enjoyed the Statue Park but it did seem like it had all been dumped as far away from the city as possible. Just seemed like a patch of waste ground by the side of the road. It's currently raining and cold here so am looking forward to sitting under the trees on Margit Sziget with a good book watching the people go by!
    6. I've got a tube of black lead. You know the stuff for blacking and polishing cast iron fire grates etc? Works perfectly and is indistinguishable from most finishes. I only tamper if the rust is quite invasive and threatens the integrity of the cross though. Just a dab of this stuff worked in with a fine artists paintbrush with the bristles cut down so that they are stubby and a bit stiffer works well once any loose oxidation has been removed. Cheers, Glenn.
    7. Glad you found us Chris, look forward to your contributions. I'm sure you'll like it here.
    8. I see no problems there at all. Looks fine to me. Core finish looks frosted like a K&Q, everything else looks spot on.
    9. 399,994 Me and Mrs R too. We're getting close to a definitive list. Looks like we're all GMIC members!
    10. I look forward to seeing some pictures of the cross when you get it. I'm sure it will be fine. Most good reference works have the odd mistake in them. It's a vast subject and very difficult to be absolutely accurate in every case. Even the best get caught out. Congratulations on getting to that happy place of looking forward to a new purchase! So addictive isn't it? Glenn.
    11. Looks spot on to me. The paint wear on the numerals can sometimes make them look slightly out of sorts but that is a nice example. Die flaws on the maker's mark, hinge, pin, catch and "veiny" wear to paint all typical. Like it! Cheers, Glenn. PS Case looks fine to me too.
    12. I'd always exercise caution without copious close up photos, especially with a desirable piece like a Prinzen. It is possible to hide a number of obvious pointers with vague pictures. Unless it's someone you trust implicitly then ask for close ups of the relevant bits. I don't have enough knowledge of these to advise, but I'm sure with more pic's there are people on here who will be able to assist you. As to using books such as The Iron Time and nothing else, I'd say be cautious. It's a great book and I love my copy dearly but it is not a definitive source book. Good luck Trevor. Glenn.
    13. Absolutely spot on. High class Godet even though it's been damaged on the reverse.
    14. Hi Fariz, I think this topic might be better suited to the 1939 Iron Cross Forum so that's why it's been moved over here. Thanks for your posting. I don't know the answer to this one but I'm sure someone will! Glenn.
    15. I've got to confess, I could probably get three on law of averages by guessing! That's really difficult when you look at it cold. Clearly I'm not obsessive enough regardless of what Mrs R says. Oh well if no one else will go first....... 1. J. 2. E. 3. D. 4. B. 5. C. 6. G. 7. I. 8. H. 9. A. 10. F. I will admit that I did try to apply knowledge to that feeble attempt not just pure guess work (and no reference stuff!) So after all these years of collecting, how bad am I Tom?
    16. Very true and also why the bigger ones tend to be in such nice condition as they've spent most of their life out of the sunlight.
    17. It is a very nice quality constructed cross and has a lovely aged look to it. Nice piece, I love crosses like this one. Glenn.
    18. That's a lovely piece Greg. Superb quality and really nice core details. Good catch mate!
    19. Hi Jurgen. See if you can get some close up pictures of it for us so we can get a better look at the core details. Glenn.
    20. That cross is a real beauty. Has that certain something that makes it stand out. Great find and a rare variant. Well done Michas thanks for sharing.
    21. I echo that. All the best to all of you and your families. Merry Christmas and happy new EK's!!!!!!!!!
    22. It's a strong man who can resist one of these no matter how many you have. Nice piece Micha!
    23. Made by the company AWS; A Werner and Sohn (I think). Usually referred to as pillow back crosses due to the configuration of the back plate. Nice collectable crosses, usually with a thin straight pin, sometimes a fluted pin. Nice to see a screw back example. This one doesn't seem to have a maker mark on it but nothing to worry about in that. Nice cross.
