    1. You don't see a lot of China Incident Medals or Golden Kites from that conflict before April, 1940. I have a Golden Kite 4th and 7th Class from 1938 as well as 2 war medal documents. I can only speculate why they rushed to award a few 1937 and then the bulk in 1940. My best guess is that they expected the war (which they did not really expect at first) to end quickly. When it dragged on they dragged their feet. My wife would say that I need to sell some documents, it is just so hard! If you got a list of what you are looking for, send me an email.
    2. JapanX, Thanks for answering my question. You are great with the history of these things.
    3. I have a question which may not have an easy answer. The date of issue for a Golden Kite Pension Notification Document, is that the same (generally) date as the issuance of the order or can that date be much later than the actual awarding of the Golden Kite. I have an example document from RC's site. The pension document is near the top of the page, it is green. http://www.imperialjapanmedalsandbadges.com/documents4.html This one is from 1927. So, the person either earned this for combat during the Tientsin Incident (making it rare) or it came from a Golden Kite given in a previous war (WWI, RJ, etc.) or we just can not know. Any thoughts. Thanks!
    4. Cool! I feel like I know the rest of the story. I will look more closely at older, related threads next time. Thanks!
    5. I am dusting off an old conversation. In particular, the issue of post 1940 documents. 1. Rich has a GK5 full document from 1941. It is numbered 308098 http://imperialjapanmedalsandbadges.com/gkdocs.html 2. There is a GK4 (rosette style) full document, dated October 30, 1944. It is numbered 473027 http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n146646092 I hope my number reading is correct. I am not sure if that changes the discussion of the number of Golden Kites actually awarded.
    6. Would you be able to tell the difference between a gold and silver version of this medal on an award document?
    7. I will take first crack. It is to an private 1st class from the infantry. The private won an order (either rising sun or sacred treasure 8th class). I cant read names, sorry. The date awarded is December 15th, 1919. I think the serial number is actually 184729. If I am wrong, someone can correct me. I think this is one the best looking documents. I have two WWI Victory Documents myself. Nice find.
    8. Here is an interesting document related to the conversation. At first look it is a simple rising sun 4th class award document, in the small form. I am not sure of the title of these small documents. I think they were either given initially to the person before the larger award was awarded. I know that in some cases people only got these smaller awards, especially during the later war years. Any clarification on this would be appreciated. I enjoy these small documents because they can give you more detail than the bigger documents. Okay, back to this document. It appears that Captain Jiro was involved with suppressing the Korean insurgency of 1907-1908. He is also well decorated with a Golden Kite 5th class. Considering the coup that happened that in 1907 it would appear that Captain Jiro participated in some way with the rather unsavory task of regime change. I wonder if he would have also won a Korean Order for this work? These are the reasons why I enjoy collecting documents.
    9. The pictures are what I think is the Wear Document for the Imperial Visit of Korea.
    10. I was wondering about the Korean Award Documents. I have a Order of the Taegeuk document with the Permission to Wear document. I also have a wear document for what I think to be a Korean Imperial Visit medal. Does anyone have anymore of these Korean and Korean Permission to Wear documents? I have a thought on this. Are these harder to find because they were given during such a short time frame? The new and last Emperor, Yi Cheok ,was installed in 1907 after Japan forced the previous to adduct, Yi Myeong bok. Maybe only a few awards were given before 1907. Does anyone have an example of a Korean Award Document besides the Order of the Taegeuk?
    11. I have been looking around for Emperor Sunjong’s signature in Hangul on the web and in my library. This is as close as I got. It is from Wikipedia. They said Sunjong, the Emperor Yunghui, name in Hangul was 융희제. Given that Emperor in Korean is황제 (thanks google translate), then would make 융 Sunjong’s name. So, the last question is thus, does the signature on the document look like a stylized and signature form of 융. I am not sure, the signature on the document seems to be missing the bottom circle. Any thoughts? If it is an authentic signature, I wonder how rare a document like this is?
    12. Nick, Thanks for the quick reply and great story about the seals. I love the history involved with this hobby!
    13. I know (pretty sure) this is a Korean Award Document for an Order of the Korean Taegeuk 5th Class. I can read most of the Japanese portion of the document. However, I do have a question. What is the symbol in the center of the document. Is this Korean? It is in the place where the Japanese Emperor would sign, so is this Emperor Sunjong signature? Should I post this question in the Korean forum? Thanks for any help.
    14. I recently found a seller on eBay from Australia who is reprinting Japanese Award Documents. They have made copies of a few war medals and orders. All are fairly common and are not of high quality. They told me that they stamp copy on the reverse. Has anyone heard of this before? Seems like a lot of work for little pay off. I could imagine only the highest of award documents could prove worth the time and money to produce high quality replicas. Here is one example. http://www.ebay.com/itm/321259772610?ssPageName=STRK:MESINDXX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1436.l2649 I wonder how they are doing it?
    15. I appreciate the pictures and information from the both of you. You guys have such a wealth of knowledge, it blows me away. I consider myself an "advancing" and knowledgeable collector of documents who has a lot to learn from experts like yourselves. I look forward to reading and seeing more from the forums.
    16. This Golden Kite 5th Class award document is dated Meiji 39 (1906). I thought this class of the Golden Kite would have the document be signed by the Emperor during this year. Why would this document not be signed? I was wondering if anyone had an idea. The picture on ebay is not very good. Thanks for thoughts. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Order-of-Golden-Kite-5-class-Document-1939-in-kiri-box-/181246441799
