Appreciate any help with identification of the painter and / or the man on the portrait it self. Don't hesitate to ask any question. To me the signature on the painting reads; H.Carls, but I can't find any info under that name. The word Sennelager would mean; "training camp", so I could find. The handwriting in pencil at the back is also a mistery to me...

Had some pic up's to do yesterday going from Namur in Belgium to Lille in the north of France. In stead of going from one point to the other at all speed, we decided to go slow and choose the rural small roads. It was a great experience. One of the places we came by was Conde sur Escaut a very nice old historical town that I would recomend to visit. Lille is quiet nice as well, but I choose the suburbs of the town ( for parking facilities!)to meet the sellers, so no pic's from that place....... But here is the beast! Hey Mervin, they are ideed hard to do anything with! Originaly I had 50.000, the entyre stock of the manufactory. I must still have 3 to 4000 left, now. And planing to stay with 50 to 100 before we move again! The TR periode dies sold the best! ;-) cheers |<ris

Not militaria in a certain way and then again ment to make militaria! Buttons, insigna, medals, buckles, sword parts and so on.... For police, army, schools, railroad, schipping compagny's,nobility crests ......you name it; it was there! Here is a small part of a huge collection I got many years ago.Mainly Belgian, but also German Imerial and TR, Russian, Egyptian, Syrian, Dutch American and UK. Great part of the dies are late 19 th century , some made by the famous Pickard in London and made theyre way to different well know Belgian compagny's like Fonson, De Rooster, Indian Cap's and I am forgetting one.....

Sure Mervyn, just a image I stumbled on, on the net! It sayed it was a chief in Cameroon, on a German site. I know the existence of a very similar pic of a chief in Congo wearing a Belgian cuirassier helmet (the one with the lion head!) so I am using thise one, meanwhile. It reflects much of my intrest in one image; Africa , militaria and humour! cheers |<ris

Hey Mervyn, no sports fan at all! But my wife is! She is from Lier ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lier,_Belgium ) and supports one of the local football club; named "Lierse". We were invited the day before yesterday, by a friend with business seats and accomodation, to watch a tennis game at the 42e ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament My wife enjoyed it,..... Not militaria related but a boy's thing never the less! Here is a French Christofle silver plated tray, measuring 33 by 43.5 cm. It is engraved with the sigma of the Antwerp football club Beerschot and 7 signatures. I can only read two signature and they are Camiel Raemdonck on 4 o'clock and Henri Janssen on 3 o'clock. Theyre names, related to the club, come up about 1929. And just found out that the marks on the plate (1935!); match that periode. Sorry about the pic's, but they are hard to take and my skill's aren't that great....... cheers |<ris
