    1. Hi there, Sorry it has taken me a while to get back on the forum due to work and family committments but as this topic is about awards to agents in ww1 I thought i would add a post to that effect. Although my main field of collecting is Police and Fire medals i do have a passion for unusual military and civil awards especially awards to women. About a year or so ago i purchased a nice related pair of 1914-18 British War medals to M. DELEYE / A. DELEYE both with mic verifying they were both BELGIUM AGENTS several months later I recieved a call from the same dealer informing me that a third War Medal which had been forgotton turned up to S. DELEYE which i bought to complete the family set. 1] MARGUERITE DELEYE [ of GROBBENDONK] 2] SYLVIA DELEYE [ also GROBBENDONK 3] ALICE DELEYE [ of HOOGLEDE] All three are mentioned in the London Gazette in Haighs despatch these being the only name of Deleye in the London Gazette and also the MIC They may be either three sisters or possibly mother and two daughter at a rough guess, surely this lot with mids has got to be a one off family grouping sadly at present this is all the info i have on the medals in question. could any member point me in the right direction of where i can find out more on theses three extremely brave Belgian lady agents, there has got to be a good story here. also could any member give me some idea of any other awards these ladies may have recieved for their valued services. thanks any info on the mather would be greatly appreciated.

    3. Hi there cat Just as a matter of interest I actually have in my possession an early Dewsbury Police medal with coat of arms obverse and inscribed on reverse " PRESENTED TO DETECTIVE INSPECTOR J SHAW FOR 25 YEARS FAITHFUL SERVICE, another such medal belongs to a friend of mine who also owns an identical medal which is named to an Inspector. There was one also presented to the Police Fire Brigade Supt as well, but getting to the point of this topic The Dewsbury Library actually held service records for members of the Dewsbury Police. This I know because I wrote to the Library who furnished me with copy records to Det Inspr Joseph Shaw and also gave me copies of two other Shaws one of which may have been to a H Shaw. I will check my docs for Inspr Jos Shaw and see if I hold copies for Inspr Harry Shaw as this name ring a bell and it could well be they are father and son. Will get back to you on this one. Yours Tony

    5. Hi there I am a new user to this site and a fanatical collector mainly of Fire brigade and police medals issued by towns and watch committees etr.I also like awards to Women [ Nurses,Police and Fire Brigades as well as unusual medals groupings to military combined with the said services. However over the last few years i have been lucky enough to purchase a small number of Monte Cassino cross medal groups to 2 polish officers one of which was killed in action at cassino his cross is numbered 1027 2/LT ANDRZEJ SIENKIEWICZ 1ST RIRLE BTN 3RD CARTHANIAN DIVN the grouping came with original letter to family member in uk advising them of his demise and photo of grave with badge of unit. [this is one i treasure as officer casualties rarely turn up] kia 12th may 1944 The other officer group has cross number 13637 with award doc 2/LT STANISLAW ZARZECZNY 2 COMPY WORK SHOP SECTN ANTI AIRCRAFT UNIT 3RD DSK He was Wounded in action against the Soviets in Sept 1939 but escaped when poland fell. Another grouping which i also prize has cross number 42096 and when checked turned out to be correctly issued to SISTER [sIOSTRA ] HELENA PAWLOWSKA [107/111] 161ST ARMY FIELD HOSPITAL very rare womans issue. I do have one more just a single issue numbered 42432 and wondered if anyone can help me with details on this one I know that it comes under a medical unit so it would be nice if it was to a doctor or another nurse [ just being greedy now would be nice though]. would appreciate any help on this . Just as a matter of interest i have a soft spot for Monte Cassino and indeed Cassino and area as my own late mother was from Cassino herself being roughly transported from the town by the germans when the allies attacked the Gustav line before the bombing of the monastry
