Dear Researchers, I was hoping I could count on your collective knowledge once more. Is anyone familiar with the uniform on these pictures. Are the German or Polish? Russian? I am guessing they are from before the WW1. from my grandfathers collection. He was German. Any help would be appreciated. Andi

Hi All, I have received my copy of the Reichsarchiv Nowo Georgiewst Band 8. Thank you Klaus! Yes I am convinced now that I have the correct Morgi location. Please see the map that came with the book. My ancestor probably lost his life there. According to the book there was heavy fighting to take the town Gut Czajki. Thank you all for your help. My next task is to find where the men are buried from that part of the battle. I contacted the Kriegsgräberfürsorge.

Bernhard H.Holst translated those texts for me back in 2015. I have another good picture. Perhaps someone can help identify some of the faces. The one with the coffee pot is my great grandfather, he stands at the right of Georg Sick. The rest I don't know. Nothing written on the back. Thank you!!!

GreyC, Yes you are correct I can't really know for sure. I base what I know on the pictures and dates I have, I deduced some information. I know that my Great-grandfather was handed his Iron Cross on the 6.11.1916 I will attach the picture. That gives me the conclusion that on the pictures with Sick he is wearing the bar, it must be after that date. Presuming he wasn't part of the 163th before that, which is most possible. "Jeder Bursche muss ein Jahr an der Front dienen und dient das zweite Jahr als Bursche. Ein Posten, der sehr gesucht ist. Wow thank you Prussian, I had no idea that I could download load the book. I had to buy it. You raised an interesting point , had of course I don’t know when my great grandfather joined the 163. I base my assumption on that he lived in Hamburg he must have been with the 163. As far as what my grandfather did, I have no idea really. Thank for your help everyone again. I had a bit of success with my research into my great grand father who served with Oberstleutnant Sick on the western front. I would like to share this picture I unearthed in an archive in the USA. By pure chance! The picture description in the album reads: Genommene englische Stützpunkte. Taken english positions. Behind Georg Sick, left stands my great grandfather. Hope you enjoy this as much as me.

Lieber Klaus, Ich habe versucht eine karte zu finden vom August 1915. Zusammen mit deiner information( 8/13-20 Belagerung von Modlin) sieht es aus als ob ich Morgi gefunden habe. Kurz vor Warschau. Modlin is nördlich von Warschau. Es gibt mehrere Morgi plätze in Polen. Was meinst du?

Thank you soo much for the information. I was trying to find out where the 38th was in August 1915. I looked at regiment history books but I can’t find one for this regiment. my great grandfather lost his life near Morgi in Poland . I found Morgi. It would be awesome to find out what happened that day. I think it was the 15th or 16th of august. thank you andi

I can only place him to some place names and dates, plus he must have been with Georg Sick as his servant. places: Carvin in August in 1916, Moorslede 6.11.1916, Lille 14.8.1917 with the 81 infantry regiment according to text on the back of photographs. I looked it up that and thought that places him with the 163 schleswig holsteiner regiment? Do you think so? Andi

I never met my grandfather unfortunately. I am trying to piece his story together, I only have some pictures and some writing on the back of them. This forum has been great help so far!! :?)
