    1. "shortly after auction closing it was BAD"

Moral of the story is: always ask FIRST.

      I never look at eBay.

Well, he gave me neg feedback at the very last moment so I couldn't respond. I didn't see it coming either as he didn't seem to be upset when I informed him of the bar being bad. I stated that I wanted to save us both trouble by not buying it and then returning it.

Well, like you said Rick. Its better to have a negative than a bad bar, especially at that price.

    2. Who are those gentlemen? I presume at the middle Falkenhayn.

I also presume The Turkish officer as

a- Yakup Şevki Pasha (General of the Army Subaşı) commander of 15th Turkish AC at Galicia

b- Lt. Col. Yasin Hilmi (commander of 20th Turkish Div.)

Mackenson is left center. The other general I'm not 100% sure. Many Turkish and Austrian officer. Many are Generals Staff officers. I guess the rest would be attached to the staff.

Who can name them all?

    3. I have a few items of mine. I've never taken photos so I can't post them now. If interest is present I can take pics. I'm a member of Albert Pike Lodge 714 as well as a member of the Scottish and York Rite. I'm embarrassed to admit I haven't been active for some time but I have two young boys so I don't get out much.

    4. I've seen the Saxon War Effort Cross on many order bars and a few ribbon bars. What's odd is that several I've seen are apparently groups that were for a man who served at the front or at least received awards with swords. What was the criteria for this award?

Heiko-- I agree completely about the strangeness of the WW1 combination (there is no stranger award than the Saxon War Effort Cross, anyway) but there is nothing wrong with the construction or mounting precedence.

As for lack of long service awards--

millions and millions all dressed up in very newly acquired short brown shirts. :roll eyes:

    5. :Cat-Scratch: I've never SEEN a NAVAL Stahlhelm member before!

If only there was a NAME on back! :banger:

He is wearing the cap worn by all ranks from F?hnrich to Grossadmiral, but as you say--no naval rank insignia at all. That would make me wonder whether he was indeed an ex-officer, or just wearing the cap insignia of one. Yet an EK1 for enlisted ranks in the navy would be quite quite unusual-- except for Uboat crews and former airship personnel.

Because he is not wearing ANY other awards, there is no hope of identifying what he had been with no name.

Beautiful shot of the visor cap insignia.

    6. Gentlemen,

So far I have been unable to trace anything about my Grandfather, Dr.Ing Carl Meyer who died in 1933, participated in WWI (I still have his EK and 3more medals) and according to my father served in the Gardegrenadierregiment zu Fuss No 5. Could anyone help me further.

      Thank you very much indeed.

Sorry that I can't help but I'm sure someone here will be able to offer information. I'd like to see photos of your grandfather and pics of his medals. If you don't mind...
