    1. What would motivate a faker to remove/alter a key part of the design as here? Also, the box and another medal like this sold for $810.00 which repros are available for less that look good. Can you please provide a link to where I can buy this box for a really cheap price and many of them, fitted for the medal and with the modern, circa 1931 Godet logo in gold on the lid as it is on mine and on this box as well. Thanks an I appreciate the help.
    2. I will reply and ad some pics but thanks for all the opinions and consideration. A Copy? Prehaps it may be, I am not yet convinced of this from the info I have found to this point other than opinion. OK, while I do appreciate informed opinion can you please provide factual reference for this statement. I got this in a trade. I cannot find this item or box or ribbon available on the internet as a repro yet. If you have please provide a link so I can verify. Is the presentation box, suspension loop and ribbon also a copy. These items I have seem to be from circa 1931 or about when Godt was purchased by Werner and became Gebr. Godet & Co, Berlin. All the rest has a uniform appearance of age toning to both the silk ribbon and silk interior of the case lid. Is the picture of the bronze blank a repro/fake also as it has a cert. of authenticity from D. Neimann I think his name is, don't have reference in front of me. Except for the missing accent over the E mine is identical to the bronze blank which is a Vet WWV 2 Vet bring back. The blank front and back is on Wharton Militaria web site. The weight of my medal is 25 grams with the loop attached. Why would fakers remove an important element of the lettering then attempt to pass as original is another question I have. Thanks for your replies on this subject. I am not familiar with these. I got this in a trade.
    3. I will work on better pics of the medal but they are already online. This item was purchased from a UK based ebay seller in 2016 from the person I got it from so search Godet Pour Le Merite, sold, ebay and they should come up. The correct ad has a number of pictures of the medal, case and ribbon. BTW, yes the box was made for this cross as the cross fits exactly in the recess and the velvet shows wear pattern reflecting the exact position of the cross particularly the eagles heads. The name on the silk liner of the inside box lid , Gerb. Godet & Co., Berlin, places the manufacture around 1930-35 in my estimation. Cross itself could have been made in the same period or 1920's too.
    4. I include a picture of the blank because my PLM is identical in design except the accent over the e missing on mine, present here.
    5. I recently acquired a PLM made in the 1930's and reflective of the purchase of the Godet Company by Werner in about 1930. The box has Gebr. Godet & Co. plus address in Berlin on the silk liner of the top. Cross is gilt bronze and the ribbon and cross sit in respective recesses in the dark blue velvet lined box. The unmarked cross appears to be a Werner design with the ribbon loop marked GODET as one single stamping. The cross has been in the accompanying case from the beginning when they were made sometime in the 1930's. The cross is missing the accent over the E and I am seeking information about why this is the case or to get further info about this condition. Has anyone seen this before on PLM's made in the 1930's? Thanks...
