Hello Richard,
That was my first impression when I cracked this book open , it looked just like all the other " H&C " books ! What do you think of some of the badges shown in this book ? To me many look like repro's ! I was hoping for more training pictures such as new shots of men wearing a dr?ger tauchretter , but they used one picture that is used in at least a dozen other boks :-( .
There are some new and very good pictures too ! I like the picture of the u-boat toilet , you do not see many views of this much needed item ;-) I also liked the picture of the man on the trolley with a hydrometer testing the batteries .
Best Regards,
Joe
Joe, a picture just for you.

Richard,
U-74 it is.
Regards,Martin.
Thanks Martin. When I compare the upper-most emblem in the photo to the U-74 emblem I can see that they are the same.

Thanks for the reply Sto. After a closer look, I think that you are correct.

Can anyone tell me which U-boat had the cap emblem in the attached photo? I've seen it before but in going through my reference books have been unable to find it.
Thanks for the help.

Hello Joe. I agree that those to pictures are good ones, especially the toilet. I got a chuckle out of that one. I agree that it would have been nice to see more training pictures. I recently saw some in a photo album that was for sale. There are lots of nice new photos around judging from the albums that are being taken apart and the photos sold individually on e-bay. Maybe some will find homes that will share them.

In anticipation of Gordon's new book "U-Boats vs. Destroyer Escorts", I am posting a grouping I recently acquired which belonged to a Radarman on the United States destroyer escort USS Pillsbury
Nice group Erik. I picked up Gordon's book yesterday at my local book store. Haven't had a chance to sit down with it yet.

Joe, I wrote the last message less than an hour ago and the postman just delivered the book. After a quick look through, I think it's a book worth the price I payed for it. It's much like most of the "h&c" picture books, a good general interest book with nice photos. My library, not being as extensive as yours, results in there being quite a few pictures I haven't seen before (or at least can't remember).
Overall, not a disappointment.

Hello ,
Has anyone read the new book " U-BOOTE CREWS " by Jean Delize yet ? I just got my copy today
best Regards,
Joe
Mine's on order and hopefully will arrive next week Joe. I know Gordon's book won't compare to this one and it's unlikely that Gordon's book will be matched for many years to come but I was hoping that "U-BOOTE CREWS" might have some other interesting photos, etc. Sounds like I'm going to be disappointed.

Thanks for the reply Gordon. Unfortunately it's not Zurn as I believe he died in 1965. This Erich was still alive inthe late 60's.

Can any one make out the last name in these signatures. I can read Erich as the first name but the last name is a mystery.

Hello Gents,
Does this badge appear to be correct?? Any idea of the maker???
Thanks you for looking>
Sean
Sean, I think if you re-sized the images you might get some asnwers. The images are too small to show much detailed needed to ID the manufacturer.

Instead of reposting all the images here, I will provide the link to my thread at WAF. This is based on the 1937 Deumer catalog now for sale by Kai Winkler.
I think the only conclusion is that Deumer made the Hymenn-type badge at least in 1937 and later changed to the Deumer style we are familiar with.

Unfortunately, John, it appears that only members to the forum can access the images. Any chance that you can post them?

I need some help with a Kriegsmarine Wehrpas entry:
Komp. Gravelines
Marinestammregiment
Beverloo
I do not understand "Gravelines". I know Beverloo, in German occupied Belgium, had an SS Panzer Grenadier training facility and a transit prison camp for alien nationals. This was the Wehrpas holders first posting (Nov. 1941) after completing RAD service. The last entry in his RAD service reads as follows:
"Belehrt uber Spionage, Spionageabwehr,
Landesverrat und Wahrung des
Dienstgeheimnisses am 20.5.41"
RAD service was completed on 27.9.41.
An interesting document which unfortunately has me somewhat bewildered.
Thanks for any assistance.

Could be a South African unit, standard issue British WWII stars and medals were not named.
Regards,
Pete
Thanks Pete. That's kind of what I was thinking and I'd also considered the LRDG Bedford trucks that Eddie mentioned. Hopefully some one will have the answer as it would be nice to know for sure.

Hello Richard.
Here is my guess:
AfK: Ausgabestelle fuer Kraftfahrwesen ( distributionpoint for motoertramsport);
M.K.A.: Marinekuestenartillerie ( naval coastal artillery)
Perhaps in conjunction with the documents at hand this may make sense.
Bernhard H. Holst.
Bernhard, can you tell me what M.E.A. might stand for? I suspect Marine ???????? Artillerie, and can't figure out what the "E." might be.
Thanks

Hi Richard,
The unit called Beddy's scouts that I know of was formed around 1900 in South africa and took part in the 2nd Anglo-Boer War. Is it possible that you mean this one?
Thanks for the reply Eddie. I was aware of the Boer War "Beddy's Scouts" but I'm looking for a Second World War unit that may have gone by that name as I have a set of WW2 medals named to an individual in Beddy's Scouts.

Thanks Berhard. The M.K.A. makes sense and I'll have to figure out whether or not the A.f.K. fits with the documents.

Feldpost Numbers
in Germany: Third Reich: Research, Documentation & Photographs

A new request regarding FP nr. M 03184.
My feldpost number book indicates that this number was for 24 U-Boots-Flottille/Kdo. Was this still the case in December 1943?
Thanks for the help.
