    1. Singho is definitely a Singhalese name from Ceylon (now Sri Lanka).
    2. Hi Dave, I have never seen the War Medal awarded to Ceylon Police. Some received the Defence Medal (for service during the Japanese attacks on Colombo and Trincomalee in 1942). My records show that Punchirala's Col. Police LSGC was sold on it's own by DNW. It seems the War Medal was added on later. Also, a Ceylon Police LSGC (EIIR issue) issued to the same 1288 U A Punchirala along with a bar, came on the market (Spink and Son). The Colonial Police LSGC you have appeared in the Ceylon Gazette of 14.3.1947. As Ex- PC 1288 he was awarded the Ceylon Police Independence Medal. Details of the two LSGC medals are shown below. Col. Police LSGC, G.VI.R. (1288 Const. U. A. Punchirala, Ceylon Police Force) Nearly very fine. Estimate: £35-£45 Hammer Price: £55 - DNW Auctions 18 Jun 97, Lot No: 234 SPK22272 - 33 Ceylon Police Long Service & G.C., E.II.R., with Bar (1288 Const. U.A. Punchirala, Ceylon Police), minor edge bruise, good very fine, and extremely rare with Bar Ceylon Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal with 1st Bar Ceylon Government Gazette 21.10.1955 1288 Constable U.A. Punchirala. £580.00 Spink 5/5/2008
    3. There is no Medal Index Card for this medallion. It was issued by the Govt. of Ceylon. Semmence was a planter. The Ceylon Roll of Honour has a small entry for him. Semmence RH; late of Gonakelle, Passara; 2nd-Lt. R.F.C. My records show that he was a Trooper with Ceylon Mounted Rifles. Later 2/Lt. RFC; 2/Lt. RAF.

    5. I too am looking into Senator Molson's medal entitlement and want to confirm if the above list is correct. I know the previous post is more than 10 years old, but thought I'll give it a try. The attached photo shows Sen. Molson wearing his medals and I don't see the Defence Medal in the group. Usually it it mounted immediately after the campaign stars, but here the CVSM is next to the Aircrew Europe Star, and next to the CVSM is the War Medal. Can someone confirm if he received the Defence medal? Thanks.
    6. This reverse mounting seems to be a recent practice with the Sri Lanka Police. The SL Army, Navy and Airforce still continue to mount their medals the 'normal' way. Hello Emmanuel, I am writing a book about "Orders, Decorations and Medals of Ceylon / Sri Lanka from 1795 to the present" and would like to contact you for some details. Can you please email me at ceylon_medals@hotmail.com ? Thanks, Charles
