My late mother’s first husband, Edward P Rickcord, received the Russian Order of St Anne Class III, in 1915, we believe for being an Officer on HMS Jupiter, a pre-Dreadnought battleship, which was sent to Russia on IceBreaking duties, during WWI, between February and April 1915.
He has a copy of the medal on his headstone (he died in 1941). I was born some several years later, and that headstone, and the family rumours about the award, have always fascinated me.
We were told, once, that full details were on a “Confidential List”, and have never been able to find out much about this, or why the Russians thought his service, and that of other officers on the Jupiter, merited an award.
My half-brother, now nearly 90, is Edward Rickcord’s only surviving son, and I’d love to be able to tell him more about his father’s award before it’s too late.
Can anyone help me...or point me in the direction of someone who can?
Many thanks.
