1919-1924 period metal cap badge. Most likely end of the War of Independence.

Hi all,
Just wanted to share a nice small badge that I received today. Like I understand this is a silver rosette badge issued to commemorate the 50th anniversary (1909-1959) of the first flight of an Italian-made aircraft. This badge was issued by the Associazione Industria Aerospazio (Italian Aerospace Industries Association), the AIA was established in 1946.
This badge commemorates the first flight of an Italian built aircraft which took place at Venaria on the 31st January 1909. The prototype triplane remained airborne for about 20 metres (22.2 yds). The aircraft was a tri-winged Faccioli designed and built by Aristide Faccioli (1848-1920) and flown by his son, Mario (1885-1915). The aircraft crashed on landing and Mario was seriously injured but made a speedy and complete recovery. Mario continued working with his father as a test pilot developing new aircraft but tragically, was killed in a plane crash aged only 30.
In case there is any extra information available of this badge then please let me know.
Thanks,
Noor

Great award and well researched. Only thing to point out - place Koivisto is direct translation from Russian language. Actually it should be Kuivastu. A location and an harbour just before main island Saaremaa.

Hi all,
I randomly picked up a single Australia Service Medal 1939-1945 that was issued to "106640 IDA SMITH RAAF".
I checked recordsearch.gov.ua website and I can see that:
Ida May Smith was born 12 July 1912 in Wallsend NSW. She enlisted in Sydney 5 October 1942. Next of Kin Albert Smith. Dicharge 8 June 1945 (rank Corporal).
I am wondering is there more information possible to find about her and her service. Also, in case she didn't serve overseas, was this medal her only entitlement?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

His MIC confirms MBE and I did quick scan of new years honours lists but wasn't able to locate him. I will have a second look soon.

A green enamel version?

Looks like it is part of an (orchestrate ) uniform (cloak badge - what could be a better translation?)

Thanks Paul!
For comparison, I added an excellent shooter badge next to it. Looks big enough to be a regular badge instead of lapel? Obviously it could be a civilian as well but I never came across anything like this in the antiques, forums or internet. the badge in question came out from Estonia, so perhaps related to the local musical events/movements?
Thanks for your thoughts!

The last one appears to be the ribbon of the Militia Long Service Medal but the middle one is an odd one. Pete.
But in this case it should be on the second position, before the foreign award?

Hi all,
Today I received this nice ribbon bar and I would like to check with others in regards of the two ribbons.
Construction I am familiar with - I have seen same systems before (WW1 era). Underneath the ribbons there is as well green khaki material (can be seen on the edges).
Now awards:
- Queen South Africa medal (must be awarded with the SA01/SA02 clasp(s) because lack of KSA ribbon)
- Could this be Danish Order of the Danneborg? I assume many other awards could fit there actually. I am guessing just most common ones
- Serbian Red Cross Decoration?
Any other ideas? Also have some of you seen similar combinations before?
thanks,
Timo

Hi all,
I am seeking any extra information and also if there is available a photo of Malcolm Gordon John McHaffie, Royal Engineers.
During the WW1 he served from July 1916 in the 167 A.T.Coy Royal Engineers and ended the war as a Major.
He appears in the Army lists as well in 30s. I assume as a territorial officer. Therefore, is it possible to confirm as well did he received a Territorial Decoration?
Like I understand, he do not appear any Coronation or Jubilee medal rolls.
During the WW2 he started his service again as a major in T.A. (Territorial Army). 1944 he became a Lieutenant Colonel.1952 Army List shows him as a Colonel. Not sure did he became entitle to Defence medal (and War medal as well).
His obituary has good overview of him as a engineer. Also it shows that he received a French Croix de Chevalier du Merite Maritime in 1953.
any help and advise how to research him any further would be greatly appreciated!
