One of the sad things is that when we had the big flood here we lost 2 large trunks full of the Wolseley family papers and a number of books that had been presented to him..... After the water had gone they were found under a very thick coating of mud, just mush......

What a shame!

OK, Any ideas what the third and fourth places breast stars/badges are?
And....Why did the Tsar of all the Russias wear the Prussian Pour le Merite neck order and the Black Eagle sash in preference to Imperial Russian orders?
You've just beaten me to it! Particularly the cross indicated, any help appreciated

This is going back awhile, but my ancestor Carl Sigismund Kunth (1788 Leipzig-1850 Berlin) is shown on an indistinct engraving wearing several orders. Does anyone have a Staats-Handbuch or similar with any info on these orders?
Just looking at the posted image, the ist one looks like order of the red Eagle to my eyes, can't distinguish anything else unfortunately

Hi yes it looks like the one. I add a belated image credit to omsa. Org

Hi, thanks, unfortunately they are not mine, but I research medals and like to have a reference library of images for my own research, I don't unfortunately remember which site I found them on now, quite an attractive simple cross.
Interestingly, it's a bit difficult to determine from the image I posted, but I can't determine that the 1849 ribbon is actually being worn, looks like, its only the later campaign ribbon (for both) , I could be wrong

Interesting placement of the Ludwigs-Orden after the campaign crosses.
Just to pick up on this, the two campaign crosses, one I assume will be for 1866, what would the other be for?
Thanks

Hi, another nice example, especially with the original case, is there any notation on the lid to the case or completely blank? Judging by the size of the cross, the case must be quite small

Thanks all, I stand corrected, the ribbon of the second one clearly isn't for the ek

Hmm, interesting, given his birthdate obviously not ek's, the second ones look to have plain fronts, so assumed 1813 ek's,
Thanks

Hi all, I came across this image of Ludwig Samson Heinrich Arthur Freiherr von und zu der Tann-Rathsamhausen, looking closely at his medal bar, he appears to be wearing 2 ek11's, one I assume is 1870, the other presumably 1813, similarly, 2 x ek1's, same dates? "
Was this common or even permitted? Comments appreciated
It appears to be an actual photo not a lithograph

Hi didn't know that, as for timeframe, looking at the style, I would say you're not far from the mark.
