    1. Wow, thanks! I would've bet on a total fantasy piece, odd to see the USA mentioned with only the year 1914 on the medal... Or does U.S.W. mean something else?
    2. Info sought on the helmet below. A quick search on Google told me it was an Italian Dragoon helmet bearing the royal cypher of King Victor Emanuel III. I have the following questions: 1- Is it genuine? 2- Are replacement parts available? (as chin straps) 3- Approximate value? Thanks!
    3. My money would be on SK = Saskatchewan Can we see the compete inscription?
    4. And again, an official Navy award certificate clearly mentioning the fleet commander as the bestowing authority.
    5. Commemorative medal (memorial badge) "70 Years of the Northern Fleet".
    6. This is the award document clearly showing the award authority as the fleet commander.
    7. So far I've identified at least two commemorative medals that were established on the authority of a naval fleet commander, not the minister of defence. I know there are more such awards out there but these two I have purchased and have the award documents clearly mentioning them as the establishing and bestowing authority. These medals called "commemorative or memorial badges" are worn on the military uniform after state and ministerial awards. Below is the Commemorative Medal "275 Years of the Pacific Fleet"
    8. S-U-P-E-R-B !!! :jumping:
    9. Oh man I can't wait until next year! I'll be turning 50 and my beloved wife told me that my present was the 2 week trip to Moscow and St Petersburg I've been dreaming of for so long! So many things to see, so little time.
    10. They don't mention any, nor do they cite any British... Kind of weird considering nearly 1/2 the ships involved were Canadian... The Kiwis, Aussies and Yanks were the tiny minority in these convoys (when compared to RN and RCN)... One can only deduce (hope) they're preparing an extensive Canadian/British list...
    11. Odulf is correct, these are pre 1969 Royal Canadian Naval Reserve ranks.
    12. April 27, 2012. 11:30 (Moscow) The Russian president signed a decree "On awarding the Medal of Ushakov to citizens of Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America." NOTE: The list of recipients below was translated from the original Russian decree and most probably contains some errors. 13. I'm a bit confused here... Aren't the metallic plates going to remain as is to show a steel hull? Or are they used to outline hull plating?
    14. Stunning piece! Absolutely beautiful!! Prime eye candy! Thanks for sharing!
    15. What I don't understand is for a medal that came out in 1988... Why isn't it on the Belgian defense site?
    16. I've been seeing this medal come up on eBay and honestly can't ID it. The few Belgian military and civilian web sites I know of don't mention it... Is it new? Bogus? Any info would be appreciated...
    17. JapanX Thanks so much for those links to the videos! As an old soldier, I really appreciated the martial nature of the parades and especially the superb traditions of the armed forces of Russia. In the first video (presentation to airborne troops), I was particularly impressed, and touched, by the cheers of the soldiers as their regimental commander marched in front of them leading the newly decorated colour party, simply SUPERB! I was also touched when I saw President Putin bringing the streamer to his lips in the 2nd video, it gave the entire affair a truly solemn and heartfelt atmosphere, absolutely marvelous!
    18. I am unaware of any monetary limit... But common sense must be omnipresent here, they will NOT let you leave the country with a modern Order or any other high and potentially valuable "state award". Some customs agents will NOT even allow high minsiterial/departmental awards to go through... Commemorative medals and badges are usually safe IF you can clearly identify them as such, hence the usefullness of speaking some Russian.
    19. One thing you have to forget about, assigning virtues to shapes... No such connection my friend.
    20. Thanks... Maybe I'm becoming parnoid... :wacky:
