    1. Well can you believe it?... Got the Officer's badge too... Military division also... Under $80. I must've done something right in another life time...
    2. I just received this fine pre 1952 Officer's badge of the Order. Any idea as to maker and approximate decade?
    3. WOW! WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW! Ask me if I'm happy to see this, go on ask me...
    4. There used to be a combination flea / antiques market in an abandonned hangar in the Old Port of Montreal, it closed a few years ago. I remember seeing a militaria dealer (about 20 years ago) and thought "oh wow!"... The glee soon disapeared! I looked at a British Campaign Service Medal with the clasp "PALESTINE", the dude was asking $380.00, I told him he had one zero too many but was told I didn't know what I was talking about... I looked at another display of his, there was a tin Luftwaffe set of NCO cap wings & cockade, he wanted $175, I nearly punched him in the mouth... The "pièce de résistance" was a $6.00 NAZI tinnie, asking price? $250.00! When I laughed, his answer was "oh, you know the real value of this stuff... Then nothing here will interest you, please leave my stall immediately". The SOB!! I think this'll turn into a very good blog for venting!
    5. Some British battledress coats like this one had the buttons inside the pocket flap and inside a liner such as the RAF battledress coat.
    6. NIghtbreak, a great set! I court mounted medals for nearly 20 years, my guess is the palm on the Order of Leopold must've been quite hard to align considering you didn't want any part of it to slip under the CD bar, nor would you want the tip to overlap the palm on the CdG, any of which would cause it to break under moderate pressure. I used a press to afix the backing to the awards, overlapping devices were always at risk, maybe this is the reason here...? I have no explanation as to why the M.I.D. is mounted as such other than guessing it was outright forgotten of that one of the two prongs broke and there's no adhesive behind the ribbons. Still, a wonderful set! Congrats on this great acquisition!
    7. Ah ben merde... Là j'ai soif... ;)
    8. The first one looks like a 1939 Croix de Guerre with star, you can't base the colour of the star on the picture, couldn't been any of the 3. The second looks like the ribbon/medal for the military wounded, agreed. The third, seems to have narrow white stripes flanking the center one. Add to that the fact it is positioned after the "wounded" ribbon... My only guess would be the WW1 medal for civilian hostages and deportees.
    9. I guess I'm also famous down South...
    10. This is (a copy) of the original 1997 work:
    11. LMAO! That's a French adaptation of the one I did (in English) years ago.
    12. I recently acquired this Legion of Honour, it's my 8th but this is the first one with enamel damage this extensive. Is there a trick (besides being very careful) to preserve the remaining white enamel? I've already had a few small pieces fall off and I nearly go into shock every time. Lacker? Glue? Prayer?
    13. Looks really good! I really like the képi and steel helmet with the colonial medal in the center, it gives it a very nice period look.
    14. I've been having the most incredible streak of luck for the past month... If only this could translate into lottery tickets!!! :banger:
    15. Some damage to the enamel, but at under $100, I consider this a very good buy. :)
    16. I believe this is a British band but can't ID the regiment... [media=]
    17. I can't believe I hadn't noticed that before... What I believed to be a 4th Republic officer's badge in my collection is actually a 5th Republic piece. Thanks for the info!
    18. On a related note... 5th Republic?? I was led to believe the current model is the 4th Republic model, that there is no real 5th Republic variant because they didn't change a thing on the award; and that the 3 star and the single star variants only denoted different makers... Am I in left field here?

    20. The banner of the Trans-Baikal Cossack Army being handed to ataman Sergey Bobrov. The banner of the Yenisei Cossack Army being handed to ataman Platov Paul. The banner of the Volga Cossack Army being handed to ataman Ivan Mironov.

    22. This being a quite historical moment in Russia, I wanted to share these amazing pictures with the membership. I also wanted enthusiasts of uniforms to see the great variety of trim and colours, quite splendid! (NOTE 1: All of the following photos are from the site of the President of the Russian Federation and are allowed for use by anybody as long as the tag www.kremlin.ru is used to identify their provenance. NOTE 2: clicking on any picture will show you the larger full size pics.)) On 7 December 2011, president Dmitry Medvedev presented each Cossack Host with its military banner. President Medvedev greeting the atamans (Cossack chieftains) of the various hosts (communities). The banner of the Ussuri Cossack Army being handed to ataman Oleg Melnikov. The banner of the Terek Cossack Army being handed to ataman Vasily Bondarev.
    23. I was scanning through the web site of the President of the Russian Federation for decent pictures of award investitures when I came accross these few gems. They show WW2 vets being awarded the Order of Glory 3rd class by then President Dmitry Medvedev on 19 December 2010. Just like any other country, paperwork gets lost, recommendations disapear... We've all seen such ceremonies in Canada, the USA, the UK etc. This is the first such event I've seen from Russia and I find it just as touching as if it were right here in Canada. I had the honour of witnessing 2 French Canadian WW2 paratroopers that had been attached to the US 101st Airborne as translators during 44 and 45 when the French and American consuls presented them with the Legion of Honour, triple Silver Stars and triple Purple Hearts, it was one of the most moving ceremonies I've ever attended. I wish all of these fine gents, regardless of nationality, that were denied such honours for whatever reason could be so rewarded publicly before we lose them all to posterity. Such an incredible generation... President Medvedev admiring the awards of a proud looking newly decorated of the Order of Glory 3rd class Boris Kirzhakov. Newly decorated of the Order of Glory 3rd class, a smiling Anatoly Kalinkin shakes the hand of his president. Addenda: almost forgot, the copyright permission asks that www.kremlin.ru be prominent.
