    1. Fred82 got it, that's exactly what it is.
    2. I really hope so! Imagine my surprise at seeing such a medal to a francophone officer...
    3. I should check my old drawers more often... What are your thoughts on this item? The writing seems a bit squashed, or is it a poor copy?
    4. Thanks! I spotted the ribbon but I can't believe I missed the ring!...
    5. Ooooooh! DOW... I thought you meant a DOW...
    6. I understand when the FSB might wish to restrict some departmental order, even dealing with an award in case some of the prerequisites might be a bit hard to swallow to the faint of heart... But why in H... are the MVD and MO RF not publishing so many of the orders dealing with ODMs? Makes no friggin sense! I'll bet a good percentage of Russian soldiers receiving awards don't even know what they are and have to turn to ru.wikipedia to find out! "IF" it's there...
    7. Peter, about 12 years ago, as part of my duties at putting together the history of St John's Ambulance in the province, I visited a great lady (Dame Grand Gross of the Order of St John) here in Montreal. During our conversation, she mentioned her grand-father's medal which she showed me, I couldn't believe it! A Canada General Service Medal with a picture of him as a major wearing it, he was from the Quebec artillery unit. I framed the medal and photo for her, I can't help but wonder where those treasures are now that she's passed away.
    8. I know bud... Look at the history of that page... I did most of it. I was soooooooo hoping you'd find the other ministerial orders and inform me they're hanging from the wrong ribbon...
    9. I've seen many many Russian medals for sale hanging from the wrong ribbon due to seller ignorance, but these are really throwing me for a loop...
    10. Can anybody shed some light on this? On the left is the Medal "For Merit in Upholding the Memory of Fallen Defenders of the Homeland" (Медаль «За Заслуги В Увековечении Памяти Погибших Защитников Отечества») established on 4 December 2007 by ministerial order 55. On the right is the more recent Medal "200 Years of Road Construction Troops" (Медаль «200 лет дорожным войскам») established in 2012 by ministerial order 2929. So I ask, why are both hanging from the same ribbon??? Every single search shows this ribbon for both. BUT, I have NOT yet been able to find the actual order 2929. _____________________________________________ Same thing here... On the left is the Commemorative Badge "For Service in Military Communications Units" (Памятный знак «За службу в органах военных сообщений») established in 2008 by ministerial order 110. On the right is the Commemorative Badge "200 Years of the Military Topographic Department of the General Staff" (Памятный знак «200 лет Военно-топографическому управлению Генерального штаба») established on 18 November 2011 by ministerial order 2244. I remember finding one of these 2 orders but can't find it anymore... Again, same ribbon... ______________________________________________ And now they issue a medal for participation in an exercise (confirmed), and hang it from the same ribbon as the Medal "Army General Khrulev" (Медаль «Генерал Армии Хрулёв») Medal "Strategic Command-Staff Exercise Caucasus 2012" (Медаль «Стратегическое командно-штабное учение Кавказ 2012») established in 2012 by ministerial order 2828.
    11. Minis are considered official awards? Holy crap! It is different in Russia... At $130 to $160 a pop, most vets couldn't afford minis over here. My own minis cost me just over $200 only because I have 2 orders, and I found that pretty expensive... In Russia I would've had to pay well over $1,000... Dang! How can vets afford that?
    12. Fake minis? No such thing as a fake mini... Cheaper mini... But fake? That's a new one. Minis are private purchase items for wear on mess kits or civilian clothing. The individual bestowee/purchaser can buy any quality/price mini(s) he/she desires. Is this different in Russia? I'm not being argumentative, I'm asking honestly.
    13. Here are the pics, the links will be dead soon as the auctions will terminate. Definitely a difference in quality... http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2013/post-3030-0-57487800-1387230379.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2013/post-3030-0-96490600-1387230386.jpg http://www.ebay.de/itm/Sowjetunion-Ordensminiaturen-16-mm-3-Stueck-/321189699136?pt=Militaria&hash=item4ac865de40 http://www.ebay.de/itm/Sowjetunion-Ordensminiaturen-16-mm-3-Stuck-/321189699147?pt=Militaria&hash=item4ac865de4b
    14. I've had this puppy for quite a while but never got around to asking for an expert opinion on it... It's quite light, almost feels like tin. I've often wondered if it was genuine. Any thoughts?
    15. I was more than a bit surprised to see a number of these minis on sale on eBay.de
    16. Aw... I was hoping for chocolate... Dang! I wasn't expecting that!! Talk about cheap plating...

    21. Megan does it again! Bravo!
    22. Stunning! IMHO, stealing from a museum is as low as it gets... That's stealing from the entire society...
    23. Nice! It's the first time I see a real variant 3. Thanks for sharing!
    24. Umalatovas are but a tiny percentage of the unofficial medals out there. These are the so-called UMALATOVAS UMALATOVAS http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=43341 Russian Awards Committee http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=43379 There are many more groups dishing out unofficial medals...
    25. Ouch! For an unofficial piece?
