    2. Thanks Mervyn, The rare Khaki uniform is attributable and I am waiting for permission from the family to post a photograph depicting the uniform being worn. Regards, Will
    3. Thanks Chris, I also have the group to a Captain Coxwell, a Mafeking defender, who was the adjutant at the P.O.W. camp in Pietermaritzburg for officers. I need to do more research on Gerber. Regards, Will
    4. I believe that all the South African P.O.W.s had a difficult time due to the arduous conditions and type of campaign that took place.
    5. Hi Chris, More than likely, as stated these uniforms were not only rare but also very expensive at the time so I doubt if they would have been replaced for a promotion.. Regards, Will
    6. The epaulets worn are very pronounced and stand high on the uniform. They are made from gold cord with red stripes that possibly depict a junior officer. These epaulets are fastened to the tunic by a gilt button by using along extender which is fastened to a bolt under the shoulder. The rank insignia is based on the British system and are also very ornate and very well made.
    7. The high red collar has embroidered SAAF collar badges on a red wool collar that has Russian gold braid trimmings. The badges appear to be dated in the early 1920's?
    8. This is a very rare uniform and was worn by permanent force officers of the early South African Air Force. The uniform was worn at all formal functions such as parades and funerals. There were not many officers at the time so this uniform does not often appear and is rare.
    9. This medal was "found" by a friend in Khartoum. Can anyone identify it, I do not have any references here with me?
