Hi All,
This is a bit of a round about question, but rather than just post something in the classifieds, I thought I would check what sort of interest is out there with respect to Selous Scouts items. I collected heavily to the unit, but have not done much with it for several years. Instead, I am collecting to my own regiment. So, is there much interest out there for people wanting items?
Cheers,
James

Does anyone recognise anything here???

I would imagine there are some Rhodesian/South African advisors involved in this unit?
Can you say "rip off". This will likely piss some people off, whether some former Scouts served there or not.

Was he with rhodesian SAS in Malaya?
Yes he was.

With permission of the owner, here is something you don't see every day. Can you tell me why?

I'm finding this post well after it was discussed here. I happened across it as I was curious about this award being given to Pte. Cochran. I am a former Patricia and volunteer at the Regimental Museum. I have been asked about this by visitors, but as I am at the museum when the archivists are not, I've not had the chance to talk to them about it. There is mention, here in this thread, about a telegram with mention to this incident. Does anyone have this that it can be displayed?

Chris,
I have seen these things go all over the board. I've seen the numbered/unissued wings go for $50-$450.00. I know of a set of numbered wings that were issued to the Boss, which went for over $5900.00US. Depending on how fast you want to sell them and how low the number is, will determine a good starting point for an asking price.
Cheers,
James
Hi,
a quick brain pick although I had a similar quesion 5 years ago...
A set of numbered but not issued wings... what is a realistic price?
I dont mean a "if you are lucky on ebay you can get them for USD50" or a "millionaire Russian collector paid USD1000 for one with the number corresponding to his birthdate"... but rather a fair market price... what do SA dealers take for them?
Thanks
Chris

Hello all,
Woud it be a safe guess to say this is a Deumer Minesweeper Badge? It's a heavy badge that appears to be made of copper??
Cheers,
James

Thanks again, Gordon.
I figured it might be helpful to attach a shot of the reverse too!

Hi James
Pictures would be a great help as one man's "mint" can often be another's 'worn'....I would hate for you to pay over the top.
Generally, any thing between Euro600(worn) - Euro1200 top-end mint. But, as with all things, prices go up....prices go down!
Hi John,
Thank you for your reply. It is definately mint, not worn. Here are some shots of the badge.
Cheers,
James

Prices pretty much depend on where you are. You'd be hard pushed to get a really nice example from a European dealer for much less than £800-£1000 (around 1000 -1200 Euro.)
UK prices tend to be a little cheaper. I got a mint one a year or so back for £650 (just under 800 Euro)
Hi Gordon,
Thank you very much for your reply!
Here is a shot of the badge. I was pleased to find that there were actually two badges and both in the same mint condition!
Cheers,
James

I have been offered a mint GWL Para Badge, as well as several other items. I've not collected German Militaria for quite some time and am out of the loop on prices. Could someone tell me. please, what the going price for one of these badges?

Hello all,
I've been out of collecting for quite a few years, but I have been offered several badges. In this lot are two absolutely mint Junker Auxiliary Cruiser Badges. Might someone be able to tell me what the going prices for these, these days?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers,
James

Hi Robert,
Do you happen to have a photo?

Hello and good Evening,
I have a question, that I hope a more experienced member can help me with.
Did any Rhodesian unit besides the Pay Corps use red lapels on the mess jacket? Basicly I have acquired a Pay Corps mess jacket that lacks insignia and the Pay Corps mess insignia have been hard to find.
I have been looking for a source of information, but have found little on this subject.
Any help greatfully appreciated.
Thank you
Robert

I've always wonderd how anyone there ever recovered their hearing again.
BTW-- since our stores now are littered with Christmas junque 2 weeks before Halloween ( ) might be a seasonal note (what with it having snowed twice already) to note that Halifax's annual GIGANTIC Christmas tree to the city of Boston, Massachsuetts (in thanks for the aid rushed up there) in recent years has become the "Holiday Tree" and other such nonsense.
You can stop now. Boston has gone creepily insane.
Meanwhile, great story for somebody who survived the impossible. Any way to find out how long he lived, and whether he had a family of his own?
That could have explained my grandfather’s hearing loss. Both my grandparents were in that location on the day of the explosion. My grandfather was on board ship, on duty, moored with other naval ships when the explosion happened. He was thrown some 20 feet in the air and landed on the railing of the ship he was on. It was a 50/50 chance of falling on deck or into the water between his and the ship next to his. Luck had him fall on the deck, as had he hit the water, the two ships smashed against each other where he would have been crushed.
