    1. i was born about three blocks from where he was born in pennsylvania.... i've always slowed down and saluted whilst passing his birthplace. the world is a bit less with his passing, and it will be sad for me to pass by there next time. joe
    2. claudio! simply wonderful find, and all the better because it seems so complete. can you tell me the name of the seventh medal which appears to be a veteran's commemorative of some sort? i have a 2 place medal bar (EK 2/this ribbon without the medal). thanks for your help. certainly a great find. joe
    3. very nice display, raul!! there is so much variety in these tinnies, and they are usually not too expensive. you've got some nice ones!! joe
    4. probably obviuos to you, but it looks like M K G. i'll check a reference i have at home. joe
    5. apparently you do live up to the adage "teach your children well"!! what a memorable gift! joe
    6. lambert- very nice to see this 28th Div medal! i have my grandfather's example as well as the campaign bars from champagne-marne,aisne-marne, oise-marne, and meuse-argonne, as well as the american defense sector. these are mounted on his WW 1 victory medal. he was a batallion surgeon and took care of many of the enormous number of casualties, including german wounded. could you restate your question, as i am not sure i understand what you are asking about the 28th division medal? thanks! joe
    7. i'm more inclined to the combatant persuasion.... what is the 4th award? does it shed any light on his possible status? joe
    8. heavy breathing...... the case is as exquisite as the award!! simply marvellous! joe
    9. my initial impression was also that this had been jeweller - or very handy recipient - altered. lovely piece! joe
    10. quite handsome and wonderful condition. is this likely a Wagner? joe
    11. a most admirable endeavor! while i can't provide any info, i will be watching this. good luck. joe
    12. i wonder how well he slept at night.... very interesting and unusual piece. thanks for the information supplied with it. joe
    13. my concern rests not from vast experience with goblets, but with the placement of the 800 stamp on the goblet... added afterward??? i'd be a little p*ssed if i got that goblet marked on the eagle rather than the base... joe
    14. what a great find! and the talent to confirm its owner. joe
    15. necessity is the mother of invention... and i love the second cross as well! joe
    16. yes, there were brass cored EK's. no, they were not specific to the navy. not sure i can tell you why they were made that way, but their manufacture was well documented. joe
    17. i have seen a number of these EK's on similar medalbars... i suspect STRONGLY that it is an interwar cross, and probably a foot soldier/NCO, as it is a relatively low quality construction (as opposed to an officer grade/more expensive make). having said that, i LOVE this bar! well done! joe
    18. it has something of the flavor of the TR DAF emblems. mechanics? machinist? interesting ! joe
    19. necessity is the mother of invention... i LOVE these "altered for the sake of practicality" crosses. this is one of the few EK1 to EK1 alterations, certainly more unusual than the EK2 to EK1 versions. nice one, eric! joe
