It certainly looks of high quality manufacture.
I have to agree. I also think it compares well against Dan's posted image.

Thank you for the info and the images Dan.
Seasons Greetings.

This is a very sound suggestion and I believe on the right track.
Thanks Paul

Hi Guys,
I am thinking of purchasing this Hohenzollern Goldene Ehrenmedaille mit Schwertern.
Does anyone know what would cause the inconsistency in finish from front to back?
From the comparisons I have been able to make this piece seems good.
What does everyone think? All comments gratefully appreciated

Lippe crosses are more attractive but which are more rare?
In the case of the Lippe Detmold Honour Cross 4th class with swords I read that it was awarded only 82 times from 30th May 1905 to 11th November 1918.
With Schaumburg Lippe being the smaller of the two principalities I think it would be the rarer of the two.
I certainly would be interested to know how many Schaumburg Lippe Honour Crosses 4th class with swords were awarded if anyone knows?

Hello Paul,
Could you send me the PDF you have with Rick's bars.

Sorry to say so, Alan, but I think the cross on the right is a recent fake.
It looks much like the pieces by the infamous raritaetensammlerclub...
Thanks Saschaw,
Sad, but a least the one on the left is ok

Hello Alan,
at first, it was difficult for me. I've compared this cross with my pictures, but by my opinion it is a fake.
The swords are Deschler-swords, but I know MVK's, where the swords hat be retrofittet, so Deschler-swords could be used.
The cross is a early Deschler, the frontmedaillon is one piece ( regular three piece).
Deschler hasn't produced this kind of MVK, only Hemmerle and Leser.
Sorry
Great summary spolei, Thanks very much

Hi Gents,
Does this BVK stand a chance?
Weight 27.24g and feels heavy in hand.
Cross is Unmarked

The darker one is the earlier variation.
This is exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks Spolei

To me it belongs to a carnival order.
I have to leave now, but I'll try to find a example later on today or tomorrow.
cheers

That would be great, thanks.
I don't recognize it. Perhaps something from Saxony because of the green.
I had the same thought Paul. It did come with a small lot of Sachsen items, but I could not find a match
with the usual award ribbon references.
Do you have any particular reason to believe it's military? What else was in the lot? Is it silk? Black light test?
Carnival order is a possibility. As is some "unofficial" sports award. I've seen the same color combination (except in 22mm width) for sale on a UK trophy vendor's site.
It came with a small lot of awards from Sachsen. I don't think it is silk and it did pass the black light test.
Hi Alan,
This ribbon is possibly for a post-war Austrian veteran medal. Here are some examples on this one ribbon bar I have.
Kind regards
Pierce
This could be it. Thanks Pierce
Hi Alan,

Hello Gentlemen
I have 2 versions of the Bayern Dienstauszeichnungskreuz 2. Klasse für 24 Jahre.
The one on the left weighs 15.10g and the one on the right 19.91g and is much thicker.
Can anyone tell me the approximate period of manufacture for each of these awards please.
All thoughts welcome.

Once again many thanks Beau. Just what I was after.

Hello Beau,
Did Peter Ohm-Hieronymussen book detail the numbers for Strelitz for the period 1914 to 1918 at all? So that I may compare with the Schwerin 23 Gold and 21 Silver for the same period.
0 -
The book by Peter Ohm-Hieronymussen shows the numbers for Strelitz as 56 for the Gold Cross and 71 for the Silver Cross for all years between 1864 and 1918.
Lugvigsen's book only gives the 1914 to 1918 numbers for Schwerin as 23 Gold and 21 Silver with no breakdown by grade for the 50 years prior. However, I think that it is safe to assume that the total for all years would be in the hundreds for Schwerin.
Many thanks Beau for the information

Hello All,
Is it correct to say that the House Order of the Wendish Crown Gold or Silver Cross of Merit from Mecklenburg-Schwerin “Per Aspera Ad Astra” was more common than the one from Mecklenburg-Strelitz "Avito Viret Honore".
Does anyone know the approximate award numbers from each Grand Duchy at all? or any articles on their relative rarity?
Many thanks

I would have to agree. Details soft, Lack of quality and that enamel work around the buckle, I think the term was "Monkey Hands"

Two ribbon bars with interresting combo
Nice Bars Christophe! I would love to find just one example such as these

That is NOT to say that it was not awarded for one of any number of violent skirmishes.... these were simply not "big" enough to be mentioned in the battle calander of the unit.
I have plenty of groups where the action where the man was awarded his group was not important enough in the "big picture" to warrant a mention, and "micro research" is required to find it... makes the action no less heroic
Couldn't agree more Chris.

Orden Berthold des Ersten mit Schwertern

Great Pics Dan,
I see the the obverse monogram is a match to the image from Nimmergut where as the one on my original image appears to be less elaborate.
Would this be due to simply a different maker pre 1918 or an indication of a later manufacture for this award?
