Hey there guys,
I was looking for some opinions on this piece.
I understand that original award pieces are made from silvered iron, are magnetic and have flat prongs
that fold towards the middle.
This one I am not sure of the material but it is not magnetic and has round prongs that fold towards the middle.
Is this a later model private purchase wearers copy or a complete fake?
Please feel free to post other examples.

Hello Everyone,
I am looking for some information on the Vor Dem Feinde Spange.
Are these are these typically magnetic?
Do period made pieces have a loop the ribbon is threaded through as oposed to prongs?
The ones with 2 prongs, should these be flat or round? and are these of a later manafacure 20s/30s TR?
Thanks
Alan

Tim has offered replacement ribbons only.
So at the very least I have a fallback option.

Hello Alan
I don't where there is a steady source of original period ribbons either. It has always been hit-or-miss with me.
In my opinion, the medals don't have to be on OEM ribbon. Modern replacement ribbon is acceptable to most collectors and doesn't detract from the value (probably because they can be removed as easily as they are put on). It certainly helps with how the medals look. I recently purchased some replacement ribbons because I didn't like how the medals looked without them.
If you must have original period ribbons...I would keep searching through the dealer sites -regularly and often. And maybe send an email as well.
Good Hunting!
Hello Claudius,
You are right they do look alot better with the ribbon, but for me I would rather have original, keep everything period. So I will continue the hunt.

That's a great display you have! I see you don't like folding and threading the ribbons through the rings.
Besides the 1K White Falcon mX, is there anything you are still in the hunt for?
What do you feel is your "Moby-Dick" that you have long searched for?
Really for me it's about what turns up at a reasonable price.
Still looking for Reuss, Waldeck,Lippe Detmold items though.
Recently I thought I would have a go at EK equilvalents, but even these aren't that easy to find.

Hi Alan,
Very nice collection you have there. congrats. I see you have second and first class of some of the nicest medals. Ust one is missing the first class of White Falcon with X. Pretty hard to find.

Hello Everyone,
I have found this to be an interesting thread as this is a bar I have brought from Chris recently.
As a novice in this area of collecting I really welcome the comments made by you all.
Now that I have the bar in hand I hope to address some points raised.
Firstly I have taken a pic of the Austrian Iron Crown device

I'm not one of the experts here, so don't rely too much on my opinion! It appears to be a very, very nice Prussian infantry officer's helmet. I looked at a couple of dealer's websites (like this one http://www.militaria...ine.de/eng.html ) and I'd guess somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 Euros, perhaps more in that great a condition.
Thanks Mike, the link is great.
