    1. Looking forward to our first autumn on the Chesapeake...

    2. I think way too many people take themselves way too seriously... Just sayin'

IG - any reason for saying this? You must have something in mind?

Just a casual observation and a reminder to myself to stay out of the fray. ;-)

I include myself in the "way too many" group for the record.

    3. Started classes for teacher certification tonight... Signing up for a German refresher course to see if I can pass that license exam.

    4. Siding may have to come sooner... Finding problems. Along with some rotten wood. No collecting in 2014 either. *crying*

It's like pulling a bandaid off...just pull it off in one stroke. Get it done with. Then it's done. You'll be back at it in 2015. Meanwhile you can enjoy what you have, do research, organize and recoop.

    5. New roof going on today. How many medals could I buy instead?

Now that you suggested I think about it... I could probably stay 3 weeks and that's allowing 500 Euro per day and roundtrip business class tix for TWO!

Umm, yeah. My friend was married and he was considering transportation and hotels for two. I have roof replacement coming up and I expect it to be a real kick in the coccyx.

To be fair, my price includes new gutters/downspouts,soffitt, and fascia trim. Siding is a 2014 project.

    6. Youngest daughter heads off to college tomorrow. I'm going to miss her...

    7. Going down to the dock and pretend to fish

      1. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

Too late in the morning for good fishing. Back to kayak shopping.

    8. So, it seems I can't so much as pull out a dead azelea or kill the Poison Ivy without a permit from the county due to the protected water front.

    9. Previous owner left a "jungle". Slowly cleaning up the mess, but it's difficult without chemicals. For the weeds, not for me. :-)

I've found that everything grew twice as much this summer.

Yea, the nasty bits are flourishing. Unfortunately, we've a well and waterfront; so, I'm reluctant to go on full attack.

    10. One month after moving, I'm still busy with "new" house issues. Still a few boxes to unpack, especially in the new War Room. And a last-minute trip to Fort Bragg for a consulting gig. Slowly reading through the 24 pages of unread posts.

    11. After 17 moves over 30 years, movers come today for what should be the last move of my life.

I hope all goes well and that you will - as a family - be happy in the new home. Mervyn

        Where to? Have you retired?

      3. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

Don, we moved to Maryland. On the Bay. Yea, I know; gun laws suck here. But it's been my wife's dream when I retired to move back to her home state on the Bay.

    12. Re-created D-Day landings with paintball yesterday. About 250+ players. Much rather hit the beach with paintballs flying than real bullets.

There were two teams; red and blue. In the morning, red was the Germans/blue the Americans. In the afternoon, we switched. So, both teams got to attack and defend. There was a point system, but I didn't pay attention. I was just a private. ;-)

    13. Well, we've bought a house in Maryland on the Chesapeake Bay. Now to sell the one in Virginia

        ...house party...I'll bring the Cheez-Its

    14. Preliminary unofficial score says I passed... So, I guess I have the standardized test score to be a HS teacher. ;-)

This exam was for social studies/history. After taking a refresher course, I'll be sitting the exam for German as well.

Congrats!!!! Great job! When do you start?? :)

      4. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

Well, I still have to take a course on the "how to be a teacher" part. That starts in August. Then I'll have a provisional license to teach in Virginia. Then I'll need to find a teaching position. Still a bit to go...

    15. Major work is done - carpet, painting, cleaning - now it's just wait for the right buyer to come along.

Actually, we are under contract. Closing date is 24 June. We close on our new house 20 May. All is good. Just need to get through home inspector this Saturday.

    16. Waiting on the carpet guys. More like a wasted morning.

Today I'm watching painters (and paint dry). Yea, I know. Painting before carpets. But it's only two room and you get workers when you can.

      3. Claudius

        Claudius

You certainly are Mr. General Contractor aren't you? Keep at it. Let us know how it turns out. Or better yet, let us know how the wife thinks it turned out. That's what counts.

      4. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

Actually what counts is selling the house in a week. All that matters at this point. Then she can start choosing colors for the new house.

    17. I wonder if my wife is planning on a new husband to go with her dream house. Today she suggested I change/repair several light fixtures since she has the day off and can be here if I electrocute myself. Hmmm.

    18. Painting and interviewing realtors to sell this house and move to wife's dream home. Forgot how much I dislike handyman work.

All advice is welcome and good. After 30 years in the Army, we've only bought 2 houses and sold only one - this will be the second. Of course, the "dream home" is meant to be the last one we'll own.

      3. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

Interviewed two realtors so far; one's low price was the others high price. The 3rd one will be the tie breaker.

      4. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

Painting and new carpet. That's all we'll do... Since we have a cat, we figure the price of new carpet will help ensure we aren't on the market too long.

    19. Buying a new house. Wife says THIS TIME I get a war room. Why am I skeptical?

No, I meant she is going to let ME have a war room. It's her dream house though; waterfront, private pier, view of the Chesapeake Bay. Large garden. Two sun rooms etc etc.

      3. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

It's the house I'll probably die in too... :-)

      4. Claudius

        Claudius

OK. Hmmm, waterfront, pier, view, garden, sun rooms...sounds like hell! I can understand why you have misgivings. ;) I'm sure there is space for a war room somewhere in the house.

    20. I hate leaves. Why is it that my lawn/garden attracts all the leaves? I think I'm finally rid of most of the winter mess.

    21. Snow's gone; spring is making a surge.

    22. Not much on my mind, but a bit of snow on the ground

    23. Why do you guys always put items up for sale when my collection budget is empty!

    24. Some interesting seldom seen Italian medals posted by a new member in the Southern Europe forum; check 'em out!

    25. I hate the freaking word "minty" to describe something's condition. Other than breath.
