That's what I've heard from the women; "Lots of old, oily, guns in Ed's house that never get used."

Shootin the e in the Ole Dayroom again????? Ahh!! I remember those days well ;)

    2. Buying a new house. Wife says THIS TIME I get a war room. Why am I skeptical?

No, I meant she is going to let ME have a war room. It's her dream house though; waterfront, private pier, view of the Chesapeake Bay. Large garden. Two sun rooms etc etc.

      3. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

It's the house I'll probably die in too... :-)

        Claudius

OK. Hmmm, waterfront, pier, view, garden, sun rooms...sounds like hell! I can understand why you have misgivings. ;) I'm sure there is space for a war room somewhere in the house.

    3. Painting and interviewing realtors to sell this house and move to wife's dream home. Forgot how much I dislike handyman work.

All advice is welcome and good. After 30 years in the Army, we've only bought 2 houses and sold only one - this will be the second. Of course, the "dream home" is meant to be the last one we'll own.

      3. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

Interviewed two realtors so far; one's low price was the others high price. The 3rd one will be the tie breaker.

      4. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

Painting and new carpet. That's all we'll do... Since we have a cat, we figure the price of new carpet will help ensure we aren't on the market too long.

    4. Finally retired. More time for the collection, but not more money.

Yes - sincere congratulations on retirement. Had you been British you would get a 'gong'. Mervyn

        IrishGunner

Mervyn, thank you. Actually, US get retirement gongs as well; I received my second Legion of Merit.

    5. Waiting on the carpet guys. More like a wasted morning.

Today I'm watching painters (and paint dry). Yea, I know. Painting before carpets. But it's only two room and you get workers when you can.

      3. Claudius

        Claudius

You certainly are Mr. General Contractor aren't you? Keep at it. Let us know how it turns out. Or better yet, let us know how the wife thinks it turned out. That's what counts.

      4. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

Actually what counts is selling the house in a week. All that matters at this point. Then she can start choosing colors for the new house.

    6. Major work is done - carpet, painting, cleaning - now it's just wait for the right buyer to come along.

Congrats!!!! Great job! When do you start?? :)

      4. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

Well, I still have to take a course on the "how to be a teacher" part. That starts in August. Then I'll have a provisional license to teach in Virginia. Then I'll need to find a teaching position. Still a bit to go...

    8. New roof going on today. How many medals could I buy instead?

Now that you suggested I think about it... I could probably stay 3 weeks and that's allowing 500 Euro per day and roundtrip business class tix for TWO!

      3. Claudius

        Claudius

Umm, yeah. My friend was married and he was considering transportation and hotels for two. I have roof replacement coming up and I expect it to be a real kick in the coccyx.

To be fair, my price includes new gutters/downspouts,soffitt, and fascia trim. Siding is a 2014 project.

Yea, I know. This isn't American Express. But if a photo is worth a 1000 words and a photo gets a prize on GMIC, shouldn't I get at least a, "Well done, old man!"?

    14. Ok, I arrive back home only 3 days before Christmas and need some gift ideas for the wife that I can order online! I wonder if she prefers Imperial German or Soviet medal groups?

        Irish

Hello, I have seen your references to the Yerevan flea market. I am not familiar with this, sounds interesting, what can you tell me about it? Thanks John

      2. IrishGunner

        IrishGunner

Irish, I am currently living in Yerevan, Armenia. Every weekend there is a junk, flea, craft market in the center of the city. There are a few medal dealers with tables; 99% Soviet, but a few other odds and ends pop up now and then. It's only 5 minutes from my apartment; so, I usually stop by every weekend to see what's on offer.

    18. Should I buy a Soviet belt buckle?

        IrishGunner

Didn't really find anything. The only shop that I would've been tempted probably, was closed on the Sunday that I stumbled upon them in Budapest.

    20. Reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated. Hope all is well with GMIC.

There were two teams; red and blue. In the morning, red was the Germans/blue the Americans. In the afternoon, we switched. So, both teams got to attack and defend. There was a point system, but I didn't pay attention. I was just a private. ;-)

    23. Previous owner left a "jungle". Slowly cleaning up the mess, but it's difficult without chemicals. For the weeds, not for me. :-)
