    1. After being led by two different commanders since 1941, the boat was commanded by Wolf-Dietrich Damerow as of June, 1943. He took the boat out for its tenth patrol (and his first as commander) on July 28, 1943. On August 1st the boat was attacked by a Canadian Wellington bomber. the plane dropped depth charges and tracked the boat until more planes could arrive. The boat was sunk the next day, but not before Damerow was able to call for support. Two German torpedo boats arrived in time to rescue Damerow and 35 of his men. However, 22 sailors were lost. Among the survivors was Rein, who was awarded a Black Wound Badge and the Iron Cross Second Class for his experience.

Nice group, but the wound bage is super! t2032.gif

    2. Did you have the full grouping ? I know that at first all of the awards were included and also a photo album but the group was later split up.

I had hoped to find a nice portrait shot of Lömker wearing the DK. I assume there would have been some nice shots of him in the album.

No Gordon, in a pity the grouping was split more earlier.

I have the same scans but from different scanner.

For example the DKiG BU document look's :

    3. EK II Citation dated for 22nd November 1939. I am assuming that the EK II would of been awarded for the 3rd patrol when U-18 was used as a decoy for U-47 while that boat was on her Scapa Flow mission and would of been a mass award to the boats crew, or a percentage of them, and would of been awarded when they returned from the 4th patrol.

This is your 2 grouping for today :
