    1. Thanks Speagle. I actually visited the museum at Huachuca a couple of years ago on an Apache Indian tour - great little place. I have tried contacting them on the email address the list but it doesn't work, unfortunately.
    2. Does anyone know if one exists, and if so, where I might be able to obtain a copy? This is one action where there is a view from both sides of the fight by men who were actually there, enabling a composite narrative to be presented in a balanced way. The two accounts I have are 1st Capt Daniel Gonzales, The Fight at Carrizal (typed MS translation by C C Clendenen in his Collected Papers, Hoover Institution) and Capt Lewis S Morey, The Fight at Carrizal, Journal of the US Cavalry Association XXVII Jan 1917. If anyone knows of any other primary sources I would be very grateful for the details. Any help you are able to give will, of course, be acknowledged in the book on the armies of the Mexican Revolution Many thanks
    3. Seeking help with a French firearm reported as being used by Venustiano Carranza First Chief of the Ejército Constitutionalista, during the Mexican Revolution. The gun is said to be an 'E Turviax automatic, French manufactured, 10 round magazine'.The source for this is Langle Ramirez, Arturo. El Ejercito Villista. Mexico: Instituto Nacional De Antropologia E Historia, 1961, pp 155-160, who used data from the Museum of National Defence, Lomas de Sotelo, [Mexico] DF. I cannot find any such make of gun or even something similar - can anyone help please? Thanks
    4. Does anyone know of a source of information about their use by military forces in the field? The period I'm interested in is c1900 but help for any period would be a start. The only reference I have come across is in Mike Chapple, The Gurkhas, London, Osprey 1994, colour plate C2, which shows a British lieutenant 4 GR with 'a megaphone on a lanyard.' but with no further explanation as to their use. Was their use common, was it restricted to India? Has anyone come across references to their use in the British or any othjer armies (or navies)? I am aware of large 'garrison' megaphones used to amplify bugle calls - I am looking for information about hand held instruments used in the field. Thanks
    5. Thanks Doc. I wondered about that too - whether it was just a Gatling with the Accles drum being sold by Accles. But that woyld seem odd given that the US Army adopted the Accles drum for it's Gatlings. So why would the USN then test it again?? I will keep digging, and again, thanks to respondents for there help, it is much appreciated.
    6. Thanks Peter - yes, it is. And yes, the involvement in China is fascinating. But nowhere does there seem to be any more information on the USN trial. Strange.
    7. Gordon Did you ever find the photo, please?
    8. Does anyone know anything about this Gatling variant? I have found a small booklet which seems to be a sales brochure, which I have ordered, but it occured to me that amongst the experts here there might be someone who know something about it. Apparently the US Navy bought some to try, and I am particualry interested in any information about these guns. Many thanks as always for any help anyone can give me. Mike
    9. Reply QuoteEdit Post I have searched the archives for a mention, but can't find anything. A book on the Hong Kong Royal Artillery (Denis Rollo. The Guns & Gunners of Hong Kong. HK, 1991) says that part of the RGA Siege Train sent from South Africa 'landed at Kowloon and with it were two 9.45-inch (240mm) Skoda howitzers which had been purchased for the war in South Africa'. What I am seeking is technical data on these guns and hopefully a photo... Many thanks for any help anyone can give. (Its still for the Book on the BU - credit will be given)
    10. Mark - understood - thanks anyway. Regards Mike
    11. Gordon Many thanks - hope the hammering was worth it! Mike
    12. USairforce Great photo. Would you be prepared to allow it to be used in a book on the armies of the Boxer Uprising and 8 Powers War, please? You would, of course, be cited as the source. Thanks Mike
    13. Peachy Great photos. Would you be prepared to allow the two Boxer related ones to be used in a book on the armies of the Boxer Uprising and 8 Powers War, please? You would, of course, be cited as the source. Thanks Mike
    14. Gordon Would you be prepared to let me have a good quality scan of this photo, please? It is for use in a book on the armies of the Boxer Uprising & 8 Powers War. These photos are in the US NARA collection, and in the public domain, but I have lost contact with the guy who used to dig them out for me - and as I am in the UK, it makes it difficult (NARA admin is amazingly bad and almost, it seems, delibertely obstructive). You would get an acknowledgement as the source, of course. Mark, First, thanks again for your wonderful Russian sources website. Next - the same question as above. Do you have a high res scan of the photos you've posted which I could use (you and your website are already in the acknowledgements in the book), please? Any Other Member If anyone else has any photos of the Boxer Uprising they would be prepared to allow to be used, please get in touch with me. Thanks Mike
