    1. Moved into a new house recently and pleased with my 'library' / man cave / working room which includes a LOT of books (incl. on Soviet, Mongolian, Albanian, DPRK, etc. orders/medals), antique furniture and some art. What's missing still is a nice ceiling lamp (preferably very flat) and the thought got under my skin of a Soviet era lamp with a strong communist vibe (e.g. hammer and sickle). Something similar to below (but then not as a wall mounted lamp but rather ceiling). This is just an example I found online. Not looking for an 'industrial' look, something more refined.

Haven't been able to find something on ebay / invaluable.com. Any advice here on where to find genuine Soviet lamps in good condition and with an explicit (e.g. hammer/sickle) vibe to it?

      Thanks

    2. Awards | Erdenet Mining Corporation (erdenetmc.mn)

Interesting to see this mining corporation was the recipient of multiple awards incl. a modern Hero of Mongolia

Been doing some googling and also found this interesting piece of info on Twitter - Tsedenbals Hero of Mongolia and Hero of Labour of Mongolia with booklets, both apparently in the inventory of the Mongolian National Bank

"Jamyan also headed the Mongolian Association of Wrestlers from 1961-1981"

I originally thought he was wearing a Jugoslav order on his right side, but now believe that this is actually an award of the international wrestling federation: http://www.fila-wrestling.com/

And almost 15 years later this award popped up on a market in Mongolia and through good luck it found it way to me to be reunited with the rest of Jamyan’s awards in my collection.

The manufacturer (Bertoni) is Italian and also produced the football world cup and european champions leqgue trophies for example.

Had this badge in my hand at the Kassel fair yesterday. Wow, that is a HUGE badge! And expensive!

And 12 years later i finally was able to add one to my collection

When I acquired this 15-20 years ago (for a very small amount) it was referred to as Yuan dynasty Mongolian Biahu official seal. I recently found it while moving a piece of furniture and became curious as to its possible meaning.

It APPEARS (if authentic) to be an imperial mongol seal with Phags-pa script on the bottom and Chinese (?) characters on the top.

I tried to run it through google translate and was only able to get some very basic translation of the markings on the top:

      - Something like: "There are hundreds of households in the Mongolian army"

      - And: "August of the fourth year of Pan Yanyou"

That doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. Any help would be appreciated!

    7. I have acquired a presumably Yuan dynasty bronze seal roughly 15 years ago.

It was pitched as an official Mongolia Baihu seal.

I'll post some pics tomorrow and will subsequently also post some tentative translation which is referring to it having a link with Mongolian military.

Does anybody know of a good forum to learn more about these seals and to potentially get some help to translate the markings underneath and on top a bit more accurately?

    8. Another group fitting in this theme recently arrived.

It is a Soviet group incl. Mongolian awards but also more recent Ukrainian and even a Belarussian award. Almost all are anniversary medals but it does include a Soviet medal for Valor (nr 247082, awarded in 1943, it looks oddly damaged).

The group was awarded to Timoshenko, a tanker, and the various documents (incl. a full page Mongolian document) confirm he participated in the Battle of Khalkhin Gol. He earned the Soviet medal for Valor while he was a KV tank driver and wiped out a platoon of Germans. Kliment Voroshilov tank - Wikipedia
