Nice pic Herman - I think it is my pic - It’s always proper to give credit to the original poster when you use a photo.

Indeed. You are right. I apologize. It seems you gave the credits to yourself now. 👍regards

Also, online a database can be found where you can search by name. The site is: www.nationaalarchief.nl and then the link to Kanselarij der Nederlandse Orden (Chancellery of Dutch Orders).
I could only find one Holmstrom: Carl Otto Holmstrom who received a silver medal in the House Order of Orange.
Unfortunately this database is not complete and it lacks the last 30-ish years.

The Name & Rankinglists from 1940 and older years are available online at www.nlme.nl. If you type in 'Gr5' or 'Griffioen' you will find a bunch of officers awarded with this order. Most of them show up around 1901, the year Queen Wilhelmina married to Prince Hendrik.

Hello Laurentius,
Our fellow GMIC member Seeheld has the Mecklenburg rolls available, but I did not use them.
I checked the Officers Name & Rankinglists of the Dutch Army, the Adelborstenboek and also Delpher kranten. Therefore I assume it is not 100% ironclad.

Laurentius, I checked my own records, the Ritterkreuz is awarded to 19 Dutch recipients. Furthermore I found 4 Dutch recipients of the Ritterkreuz with Crown, 5 Honor crosses, 1 Grand Commander and 8 Grand Crosses. I am sure I missed a few.
I have in my collection a set of three awarded to a Dutch officer identified to Colonel Clavareau.

Indeed it is very disturbing if auction houses are willingly selling cheap and crappy copies as high value originals. This in the end is killing for our hobby.

Do a search with the word "griffon" on this website and you will learn a lot more about this order.

Seeheld, your answer got me wondering. Were Mecklenburg-Schwerin awards to be returned to the Chancellery upon death of the recipiënt or upon receipt of a higher grade in the same order?

The Dutch military attaché, a neutral country in WW1, also received a EK2 on a combattant ribbon. His successor also.
In total I found 4 Dutch officers who received a WW1 EK2. All issued on combattant ribbons.

Sorry Dave, it is not de Kruijff. You show two cards of two different E. De Kruijff. Look at the different dates of death. Captain E. De Kruijff awarded with the Griffin order died on June 4th, 1912.
I searched all kind of officerslists and identified 15 Dutch officers who got a Knight in the Griffin Order. De Kruijff is one of them, but he died before he received the Officerscross, so no match.
After checking the medal entitlement of these 15 officers, 2 remained. The others got more and even much more awards.
The 2 remaining officers are:
- Colonel E.P.M. Clavareau
- Major-General H.Z.A. van de Roemer
The missing medal is therefore an Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau with the swords as both received it.
Van de Roemer also received a Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion, but that was less than 2 months before his death in 1928. I don't think it went in his medalset, of which I couldn't find proof he had one.
My guess is Colonel Clavareau as I found a picture of him wearing a set of 3 medals. A blurry picture and the medals are difficult to see, but it is proof he wore them. My money is on him.
I add two pictures. The first one is van de Roemer, the second one is the blurry one of Colonel Clavareau.

Hello Rob,
I don't know, as I picked the picture from a Facebook post. I think this group is in a US museum.
