    1. Thank you for the response! I am quite puzzled by this rifle, which is a Type 38, as this marking is on the top of the receiver where it should say "38 Type" and there instead are no other markings, including serial numbers, etc. It was also my understanding that the Isawa Jyuko arsenal only produced Type 99 rifles between 1940 and 1945....any thoughts on this? Thanks!
    2. Hello everyone, I acquired an old Japanese rifle and need some help identifying the marks on top....they do not appear to read as most Japanese rifles do (Type 38, Type 99, etc.) Any input would be greatly appreciated!!
    3. I agree. Chinese copy for sure. I would NEVER buy a sword from any auction site where the seller is in China. Even if the seller for this particular sword is not in China, I still believe it is a Chinese copy. There are just too many things wrong with it...and that's just from one picture. My suggestion is to stay away from it.
    4. Thanks for the info! Does Terasawa have any title or rank listed?
    5. Hello Everyone, I just picked up a Japanese Census Document and was wondering if anyone could verify the recipients name for me. My Japanese isn't very good. Thanks!
    6. Unfortunately I am not the winner though I was an early bidder. One day though....
    7. Don't forget about the 6 dollar shipping cost!????
    8. Also, can you read the inscription that says who gave it to this person?
    9. Yes, I've been watching it but its a little high for my bidding. What are your thoughts on 3400?
    10. Here is the link if anyone wants to check out the listing... http://www.ebay.com/itm/FIVE-JAPANESE-MEDALS-/200856850646?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D3908713423158817387%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D200856850646%26 Also, I did some quick research. The Soldier listed on the bring back paperwork, Brigadier General Charles M. Swartz, died in 1973. His daughter, Isabelle Swartz, just died on September 26th of this year, which would make sense as to these items being listed for sale.

    13. Good Evening everyone, I was wondering if anyone has seen the ebay listed with a group of medals that includes a Golden Kite breast badge; a 4th or 5th kite with no ribbon; a 5th class Rising Sun with no ribbon; a 5th class Auspicious Cloud with no ribbon and a 5th class Pillars of State with no ribbon. Also included is the bring back paperwork that shows the Brigadier General having possession of these items upon his return to the US. What I would like to hear from everyone is: -Do these items appear to be authentic? -What do you think this grouping would be worth? -Do you find it interested that the bring back paperwork lists each medal and their class fairly accurately? (I am surprised that the approving Officer was able to be so accurate with the descriptions) I am not, in anyway, promoting this listing on Ebay. I do, however, think it makes for good discussion as I have not seen this type of grouping for sale before. (Sorry the certificate picture is so small. I can't figure out how to enlarge it) http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-8665-0-15211700-1354591495.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-8665-0-06722600-1354591463.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-8665-0-77585300-1354591521.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_12_2012/post-8665-0-09902700-1354591537.jpg
    14. Someone? Anyone? I hope somebody in this forum speaks Japanese..... Thanks!
    15. Hello Everyone, I know this is a medals and orders forum, but could someone help me with the translation on this? It is on the blade of a Japanese Officer's Sword. Thanks for your help!
    16. So it's Chinese? I really thought it was Japanese...
    17. Hello all, Could someone please help me translate these characters? Thanks in advance!
    18. Thanks Dieter... It's actually on a type 38 long rifle.
    19. Hello All, Can anyone translate this? I believe it should be either someones name or possibly the name of a school. It is stamped into the stock of a WW2 Japanese rifle. Thanks alot!
    20. I wish I could read Japanese...I would be on YJA picking up my own pair!

      More Insanity?

I just picked up a 5th class Sacred Treasure with Rosette and box for $180 and I was the only bidder! After the auction ended, I thought maybe there was something wrong with it and I didn't see it, but so far that doesn't seem to be the case...other than a little visible staining on the fabric. It wasn't a steal by any means, but I feel like I got a pretty good deal. Thoughts?
    22. Thanks everyone for the input. I definately agree that whether it was alot to pay is going to differ from collector to collector. I am only basing my observation on what they have sold for in the past (at least from what I have seen). I was also watching a Showa 6th class kite with box and rosette sitting on ebay for weeks. Originally it was listed at 299 and had no bidders. It was relisted for a "buy it now" price of 350 for a 30 day period...it sat like that for 15 days with no buyers until the auction ended for the Meiji period 6th class at 513...the other was purchased that same day...I guess whoever lost the bidding war for the Meiji kite decided on a consolation prize!
    23. Ok, just wanted to know if Im way off here... A 6th class kite (meiji) with box and rosette just sold on ebay for 513! Isn't that a bit much? Just wondering...thanks
