Hello to everyone,
I picked this up at an OVMS show this past weekend. It appears to be from Hesse. Just wanted to share.

Sorry Dean, but yours is a (nonsense combination?) fake bar by one of the usual ebay suspects, hagekna41.
We've talked about him many times, and the forums search will probably reveal some of the talks on his stuff.
Don't see anything here that suggest a wearer copy. The cross is totally textbook, so probably from early/mid war era.
saschaw and Ulsterman,
I had to dig through some records but this bar was bought from hagekna41. I bought two bars from him one was a Bavarian which has already been outed as a fake and this one. Luckily I kept records of who I bought things from.

Hello to everyone,
So, this bar would be issued to an enlisted man who never left Germany?

Hello to everyone,
I have a medal bar that I always just liked the way it looks. It is not rare and not named to anyone. Does anyone have anything that they just like the way it looks?

I have never seen the Order of the White Elephant on a German bar! Talk about cool. I bet there is no problem in IDing this one, is there?
Paul,
Thank you for the nice comment. I have done some research and the Order of the White Elephant is a 5th class or "Member" Order. I assume it went to a diplomat working in Thailand. I would love to have it ID'd but I think the rank lists only list officers (I maybe mistaken). I don't think that this bar was to an officer, but again I maybe mistaken. If you have any suggestions on how I could ID this bar, please let me know.

Bavarians normally did not receive the Centenary Medal. Among serving soldiers who were not veterans of 1870/71, it was mainly only awarded to members of regiments stationed in Alsace-Lorraine in 1897. These were:
Stab 10.Inf.Brig. (Metz)
Stab 5.Kav.Brig. (Dieuze)
4.IR (Metz)
8.IR (Metz)
3.ChevR (Dieuze)
5.ChevR (Saargemünd, except for 2./5.ChevR in Zweibrücken)
II./23.IR (Saargemünd)
I./2.FußAR (Metz)
IIII./2.FußAR (Metz)
There were also a number of random awards for which I am unsure of the specific reason. Some are because they were commanded to Prussian units at the time of the award. Among these, for example, was Anton Ritter von Löhr. Then Second-Lieutenant Löhr was at the Prussian Militär-Turnanstalt from 1.10.1896 to 1.8.1897.
But if you look at the Militär-Handbuch des Königreichs Bayern nach dem Stande vom 1. Dezember 1897, you can see that most Bavarians did not have the medal.
Regards
Thanks Dave for clearing up that Bavarians normally did not receive the Centenary medal. This bar was not making sense if the wearer should have received the Centenary medal. It appears his service was in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
