Hi Tim Apologies for the delay in replying?have just returned from a trip! So, what do you have here? Obverse shows the classic Juncker design. Reverse: although the set-up is the unusual (oblong hinge-plate) variation, I have no problems with it. Some time ago I had the chance of handling a badge with the same set-up and measurements were within tolerances of known originals. And in such nice condition! Here is another example from my files. As to the "grooves"...my badges do show heavy file marks, but I'm not sure if they are as uniform as the ones on your example. Possibly a different type of tool? As soon as I get a minute I'll get some pictures taken and posted.

So the day arrived and presents were opened on a cold, crisp Christmas morning. I was handed a rather strangely shaped parcel. The shape and weight gave me no indication of what was inside. As I opened it I couldn?t believe what it contained; Some months ago I had seen the item on a dealer site, a couple of weeks later I revisited the site to find that it had been sold? Should have acted a little quicker, thought I and forgot about it. Much to my delight, there it was! And here it is. From the estate of RK winner, Legion Condor, Battle of Britain and Eastern Front veteran, Hauptmann Rudolf Henne is this ?Art Deco? bronze statue of a Condor standing on its marble base, given to Henne as a commemorative piece for his time in the Legion Condor. It now stands proudly on my dining room table. Many thanks, Rachel!

Hi Darius... It is an A2 (2nd pattern) wreath, but not the A2 you may be thinking about! Assmann produced a very early wreath known as the "Egg shaped" wreath (thus far found on combined pilot/observer, pilot and para badges) which is the true A1 wreath, making this type of wreath an A2. Shown below are examples of the wreaths produced by Assmann. Left: A1 (egg shaped) wreath. Middle: A2 (as per the one shown in the picture you posted) wreath. Right: A3 wreath.

Good morning, Che. I love a bit of intrigue! I have no idea who the maker is. It does not match any maker that I know of. I'll make a guess.... It is marked with a Juncker maker mark and is attached to a 'round wreath'. Could it be so? -
Talking of burnishing?. Wear aside; they certainly did a superb job of the fire gilding on this piece. I always find it hard capturing that sparkle you get on badges that have had their highlights burnished. I thought I?d up the side-light just a little?.but no sparkle! That?s an in-hand experience I suppose. It does however give a better picture of the quality of the gilding.
