  1. Looking for some help on any information about the WW2 era Bulgarian shoulder board system. IE - what were the colors of the boards for the various units and service branches? A nice color plate would be a big help. Thanks in advance!
  2. Dear members, Till very recently we have enjoyed fake free market..bad news is not any more I just want to alert the Forum that for a quite a while I have noticed some increase of Fake Bulgarian Orders on the Market The most faked one is Order of St Alexander Also faked pieces of high Classes of the Other Ordes have been on the Market, Some single fakes of rare Bulgarian medals as well Be alert Most of them I have noticed are on EBay, however some of them are now surfacing on different dealers sites and also on different Auctions in Europe. The source of some of them is also a Dealer in France, who is offering them to other dealers I am trying to gather some information and at this stage I will not publish any pictures or names not to offend any pesons. My advice at this stage Buyer Be Aware Look for any alterations/modifications, changed parts, new parts ,fake enamel, faked patina, wrong size, bad craftsmanship etc. The most important -the quality is not as good as the original period Decorations Ask questions, ask for more information..if in doubt pass it on Use a common sense and your knowledge and do not jump to any deal because is too good THe Good News is that these fakes are mainly high classess -Bad news is they are expensive for fakes. I am expecting any one who notices any such a piece to alert the Forum We have to try to stop such a practice and protect ourselfs Graf
  3. Recently got this ribbon bar from postwar Bulgaria. Classic style, painted/plastic. Not my main area, I tried to ID as many ribbons as possible, but some leave me puzzled. Especially the first award, does anyone have a clue what it is? Also, what rank would this person have had? 1) ?? 2) Order of the People's Republic of Bulgaria (2nd cl?) 3) Order of the People's Republic of Bulgaria (3rd cl?) 4) Order of 9th September 1944 1st cl?? (ribbon slightly off?) 5) Order of 9th September 1944 (2nd cl) 6) Order of National Liberty (2nd cl) (probably) 7) Soviet Medal of Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-45 8) ? 9) ? 10) Patriotic War Medal 1944-1945 ?? (ribbon slightly off?) 11) Medal for Participation in the Antifascist Struggle ?? (1948) 12) ? 13) Jubilee Medal "30 Years of Bulgarian People's Army" (1974)? 14) ? 15) Some Jubilee Medal (zB 1974, 1981, 1988, …) 16) Jubilee Medal "25 Years of People's Rule" (1969)? 17) Jubilee Medal "25 Years of Bulgarian People's Army"/Min. of Interior/… (1968) 18) Long Service Medal for Armed Forces / Ministry of Interior / … (20 years) 19) Long Service Medal for Armed Forces / Ministry of Interior / … (15 years) 20) Long Service Medal for Armed Forces / Ministry of Interior / … (10 years) 21) Jubilee Medal "20 Years of Bulgarian People's Army" / Ministry of Interior / … (1964) 22) ?
  4. Hi , I am a new member i collect Orders from Europe including Royal Bulgarian Orders I have two Orders of St. Alexander that I could not find in the existing sources of information One appears to be 4- th Class of the First Model ,Second Type -1886 It is 45 mm wide and very thick - 7mm at midpoint of the arms The problem is that the 4-th Class from this period is 39 mm wide Is it possible this Order to be 3-rd Class with missing princely Crown and converted to 4-th class or..? The other Order -it looks like to be from French Maker It came with French Legion of Honour Officer Ribbon with rosette The cross is 35 mm wide and 4.5 mm thick It appears to be 4-th Class of The second Model 1887 - however it has a crown, which looks like the crowns made by French makers for exported foreign orders. Usually this Class comes without crow. The crown and the cross have the same aging patina. There are not signs indicating that the crown was fitted at later stage. Is this piece once off of kind ( The French maker made it before knowing the shape of the crown fro the next Model) or.........? Note: The Officer Class of the Order of St.Alexander - Boris iii Model is for comparison I am waiting for your opinion
  5. Hi everybody, I have received recently two Order for Bravery 1915 in their boxes.
  6. Hello, guys! I would like to discuss Bulgarian Red Cross Medal, which was created by Royal Decree on 15.02.1918 in two classes (silver and bronze) to be awarded for acts of humanity, philanthropy and help to Bulgarian Red Cross Society during WW1. In 1929 a second issue was created, also in two classes (gold and silver). The medal is quite rare at the moment. Does anybody have some info about manufacturers of this medal?

  10. Hi all, I am currently trying to assemble a full list of the decorations received by HM King Ferdinand I of Bulgaria. Unfortunately, my knowledge only covers Bulgarian decorations, so the majority of the 'foreign' ones are very blurry to me. I'd appreciate your help with identifying more orders/medals which belonged to Him and/or improving the existent info by defining the particular class received. Regards, ilieff PS:I've spotted a similar list on Wikipedia.org but I believe it's very inaccurate. Bulgaria: - Order of SS Cyril and Methodius - Military Order "For Bravery" - Royal Order of St. Alexander - Order of Civil Metir - Order of Military Merit German Empire - Order of the Black eagle - Order of the Red Eagle - Imperial Military order of the Iron cross - Pour le Merite (Military division) - Order of Saint John (Johanniter Order) - Saxe-Ernestine House order - Order of the Wendish Crown - Military Merit cross (Mecklenburg) Austro-Hungarian Empire - Order of the Golden Fleece - Order of St. Stephan British Empire - Order of the Bath - Royal Victorian Order Russian Empire - Order of St. Andrew - Order of the White Eagle - Order of St. Vladimir - Order of St. Anna - Order of St. Stanislav France - Order of the Legion of Honour Ottoman Empire - Gallipoli star (Iron Crescent) Kingdom of Italy - Order of the Holy Annunciation - Order of St Maurice and Lazarus - Constantine Military order of St George Kingdom of Belgium - Order of Leopold Kingdom of Portugal - Order of the Tower and Sword - Order of Aviz Kingdom of Sweden - Order of the Seraphim Kingdom of Denmark - Order of the White Elephant Empire of Brazil - Order of the Rose Other - Military order of St John of Jerusalem (Maltese order) - Order of Pope Pius IX An image scanned from Schalafoff's book: King's early bar And a second scan from that very same album: Second (later) bar which belonged to the King.
  11. Hi, I just found pictures of this unusual Sodiers Cross 3-4 Class It has multiparts removable central medalions and the swords are the same as the Officers Class Opinion wanted. Regards Graf
  12. Hi guys, Here is my last find. I would like to know is the details below correct... Commemorative Medal for the Election of Prince Ferdinand I, 2nd Class, 1887 The Medal was instituted on 21st December 1887 and awarded to military who had been members of the garrisons of the towns through which Ferdinand I passed on his arrival in Bulgaria on 2nd August 1887. Prince Ferdinand Battenberg (of House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha) was a well-connected, German prince, related to many of the crowned heads of Europe. He became King (Tsar) of Bulgaria in 1908 on the declaration of the kingdom until 3rd October 1918 when country became defeated in the Great War. This award is Maltese cross type, with fleur-de-lys between the arms. Obverse centre medallion bearing the crowned cipher of Ferdinand I within a ring inscribed "БОЖИЯ И НАРОДНА ВОЛЯ" (By the will of the Prince and the People). The reverse central medallion bearing the Saxon coat of arms within a ring inscribed "25 ЮЛІЙ 2 АВГУСТЪ 1887" (25th July 2nd August 1887). All awards made by Rothe in Vienna and 2nd Class only 1,019 were issued.
  13. Hello Here is a 4th class Bulgarian military Bravery Order. This particular badge is made from sterling silver, silver runs below enamel & there seems to be a pineapple design with two balls on either side. Can anybody shed some light where the badge was manufactured & who the maker was. I don't think it is a Bulgarian made piece. Any thoughts would be most appreciative. Thanks Yankee
  14. Here is a 2nd Class that came in today. This Order seems to mirror the old Tsarist Bulgarian Bravery Order, having 4 classes and 2 colors of enamel just like the old royal Orders: 1st Class (pinback white enamel), 2nd Class (ribboned--white enamel), 3rd Class (pinback red enamel), 4th Class (ribboned red enamel) The swords seem to indicate that it was a MILITARY award, but it also seems to have been awarded long after Bulgaria changed sides in 1944.
  15. I took the attached photo many years ago of a Gorget "Voenna Politsiya" in the collection of a friend in Germany. I have also seen a similar Gorget with the plate gilded rather than silvered which I am led to believe was for officer ranks. Can anyone with knowledge of the Bulgarian forces point me to any further info on these and the uniforms worn by Bulgarian MPs in WW2 ?
  16. Hi guys, these days decided to gather a small collection of commie Excellent /Excellent this... Excellent that.../ and other awards-badges. Still these are common and cheap, but sooner or later will be over, so decided to use the opportunity. And they are quite nice, with lots of details and enamel. So, here is a fast catch:
  17. Dear Members, Here i am listing the all Emmissions of the Officer Class of Bulgaria Order for Civil Merit It took me a good time to collect them, especially the 1937 King Boris III Emmission with the flat back center Regards Graf
  18. Hi yet another award in my collection, I believe it to the the Order of Military Merit 6th class. Does this have the correct ribbon? and secondly, I have seen other pieces which have the Cypher on the obverse central medallion, My piece has a tricolour enamelled centre, as they only differ in the central medallion, would this identify any specific period that it would have been awarded? Thanks for any input regards Alex K
  19. Dear members, I would like to start this topic with a nice 1941 3-rd Class Order for Bravery In fact since no 1-st and 2-nd Classes were given during this period this Class is considered to be the "1st Class" I have seen pictures of this Order, from this period, mostly with Bulgarian Officers and more often with King Boris III. I aquired this 3-rd Class recently with a picture of German General. I do not know whether this is his Order, because there is no provenance to suppoti it. However, it is a nice Set anyway. It ia a real photo with a hand written "Stalingrad". Regards Graf
  20. We see this little Bulgarian WWI commemorative a lot in different threads, but I thought it needed its own topic... Can anyone give the Bulgarian language name of the medal (Google was no help)? And does this one look too "new" to anyone else?
  21. IMHO only, first crosses austrian production was wis "six-point-stars" near date 1879
  22. Adopted by the Council of the Order, at its extraordinary meeting held on June 18, 1889, the creation of this new decoration, was approved by a special decree of the Principality. In accordance with Article 8 of the Act, the Order would be given to those "who had spent at least 10 years of continuous military service and during all that time had distinguished themselves by their zeal, exemplary and useful in the exercise of their functions. " Was also given a second order "20 Years of Service". The Order has the shape of a Cross of Leopold with smooth edge of 34 mm and a long-armed cross with dotted lines. It is made of white metal alloy. It was made by "Scheid" in Vienna, and is marked by the manufacturer. Obverse: in the arms of the cross mark appears the sovereign (Prince / King Ferdinand I), the Roman figure "X" marks the year of service, the outer circle is the constituency: "OTLICHNA Sluzhba" (Excellent Service) separated by a crown. Reverse: The Order is decorated with a crowned lion Bulgarian coat of Saxony. The order was delivered until 1947.
