  1. Hello. I have a mystery medal. A collector mentioned that it may be Danish. Any thoughts? Thanks. Linas
  2. Obverse: Head of King Frederik VII facing right, circumscribed ‘FREDERIK VII KONGE AF DANMARK’ - Frederik VII King of Denmark. Reverse: ‘1848-1850’ circumscribed ‘FOR DEELTAGELSE I KRIGEN’ - Participation in War.
  3. I am advised that possibly the most complete Danish medal collection will appear at Morton and Eden's auction on 26th November 2014. Sale 71. To view the beautiful photographs go to www.mortonandeden.com - for the collector this is a great opportunity. Mervyn
  4. A friend of mine asked me for help but it isn´t my subject. So I have to ask for any of your support. Any help is apprciated. I think he is wearing Dannebrogordenen in different classes. I´m not sure about his rank. Regards Andreas
  5. Hi Gents, I got a German medal bar which contains a golden Royal Medal of Recompense King Frederik VIII. My question is, do there exist rolls with the names from German recipients? My hope is, that it is possible to identify the former owner with the help from forum members. Eyery help appreciated. Kind regards Andreas
  6. I posted this inquiry in the Russia section, but came up with nothing. I'm repeating it here to see if I have more luck (and it does involve more than one country ) I'm researching a Danish medal given to an Imperial Russian regiment. The Danish King Christian IX (1863-1906) was an honourary colonel in the Russian dragoon regiment 'Seversk' (probably due to his family relation with the Czar's wife). In 1879 he awarded a medal for bravery to the regiment for it's participation in the Russian-Turkish war 1877-78. The medal was only awarded on this one occasion. It was awarded in gold for officers and in silver for others. It is a small medal - 22.5mm (7/8 inch). The obverse shows the King's uncrowned head surrounded by the text "Christian IX Konge af Danmark" and the reverse the text "For tapperhed" (for bravery) inside a wreath of laurel leaves. The gold medal is worn from a white ribbon with thin red edges - the silver medal is worn from a red ribbon with a white middle stripe and a white horizontal stripe (see picture below). My problem is that the only picture of this medal I know of, is of a specimen for the Mint cabinet which is without the ribbon and the suspension. So what did the suspension look like? And who were the receipients? Does anybody of you have pictures of this medal or of soldiers wearing the medal etc.? Or perhaps you even have this medal in your collection? Any help on this matter is highly appreciated. I have tried to illustrate the ribbon (the picture of the medal is the specimen for the Mint) /Mike
  7. Hello; Here is something that someone practically gave to me because they knew of my interest in "everything military". I have to confess, I hadn't recognized it immediately. I think our Danish citizens or collectors of Danish militaria will recognize it right away, but I haven't seen one like it in decades. What it is; the King's Emblem Pin for King Christian X of Denmark The back ground is the Danish flag, the big "C" and smaller "x" for Christian X. Born in 1870 and second date of 1945 for his 75th birthday. There was also an earlier 1940 date for his 70th birthday and it came out just after the Germans occupied the country in WWII. The pin is hallmarked on the back with "925 S" and the small cypher mark of Georg Jensen. The designer of the pin was Arno Malinowski. The pin became associated with passive resistance to German occupation due to the timing it came out and the circumstances. The Danish king was not pleased to have the Germans in his country but agreed to it because their military situation was hopeless. With his surrender he was able to remain the head of country and tried to protect his people. He could be seen riding on his horse, without military escort, among his people in the city. There are more of stories and actions found online. For years, even after his death in 1947, the pin has become a symbol of the King's (and the country's) resistance to the occupation and will be to any occupation. I have seen this small badge as a button hole device and cufflinks.

  9. Hi everyone, Would you be so kind to identify this decoration? It seems to have something to do with Schalburg Cross. At least it shares common signs with it. Every answer is appreciated. Regards, tifes
  10. Hello everybody, I have many years the following nice badge. It seems it should be Danish, maybe not military. Can somebody tell me more informations? Thanks. Regards Jan
  11. Hello Gentlemen, recently I got this nice miniature. IMO it is a Dannebrogordenens Hæderstegn under the reign of kong Frederic VII. It came from a family with name Bock from the village Nübbel near my hometown Rendsborg. Do there exist awardlist an is it possible to get further informations ?
  12. My Paternal Grandparents immigrated from Denmark at the turn of the 20th century. When they died, their things were passed down to their children. My Father died last year, and I found this lovely medal (?) in his desk. I'm hoping that it is Danish! There is no backmark. It has a pin closure. Thank you for any assistance in finding out what this is, and what country it came from!
  13. Hi All, Attached is a colourised image of a Danish SS Officer which I have done. Thought that it might have been Per Sorrensen, but I think I'm wrong it is not him. I am however convinced that he belonged to the Danish SS. Is anyone able to put a name to the face. Any info appreciated Alex K I would have posted where I normally post these things but suspect I may not get a reply.
  14. Hi to All, Would you know where to see or find awards (orders & medals) in Denmark and South of Sweden (Göteborg, Malmö...) ? I'm interested in museums, flea markets, dealers' adresses, etc... Any good address to recommand ? In advance, many thanks. Cheers. Ch.
  15. Greetings All. I just got this Danish medal. I do not know what it is for. Also, don't know if this is a lady's version. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Linas
  16. Hin Íslenzka Fálkaorda This was instituted 3 July 1921 by King Christian X of Denmark and Iceland. The statutes were revised on 11 July 1944 after Iceland became a republic. It is awarded for services to Iceland or to humanity, to both Icelandic citizens and foreigners in 4 classes (Grand Cross, Grand Knight with Star, Grand Knight & Knight). The President of Iceland serves as Grand Master and apart from the President, the Collar of the Order is only conferred on foreign Heads of State. But here it is:
  17. Instituted in 1930 by King Christian X of Denmark to mark the 1000th anniversary of the founding of the Althing (Icelandic parliament) in 930AD.
  18. Dear members I could use some expert help on this Knight Cross to the Order of the Dannebrog Christian X (1912-1947). Unmarked Hollow construction in gold (karat?) 61*30 mm. 12,6 gram. In the middle the Danish Red Cross badge of Honour. Instituted 19. 2. 1916 with the H.M. King Chr.X's approval. Only 261 awarded. Unmarked in silver by royal court jeweler Anton Michelsen. If anyone knows how old the Order of the white elephant is, it would be helpful. Please comment. Regards North Denmark
  19. Tapperhedskorset This is a new bravery award, described by the Danish Ministry of Defence as being equivalent to the UK Victoria Cross or US Medal of Honor, instituted in 2011 and so far awarded but the once. [Picture credit: Danish Ministry of Defence] Quite a handsome beast!
  20. Hi all.. The danish soldiers who just came home from Afghanistan had a parade in Copenhagen yesterday. If anybody want full resolution pictures (10 megapixel), just tell me.. Below are interesting medal-combinations: Danish Home Guard soldier - Nice to see volunteers do some INTOPS-service: (Note the left medal is the NEW medal for INTOPS in Afghanistan) It's not everyday you see a Danish Captain with a US Army medal. Unfortunately he was in a hurry, so I didn't find out how he got it. A Danish Captain with both Médaille de la Défense Nationale from France and the.. Ehm.. Is it the Nordstjärneorden 1st class or is it the Nordstjärnemedaljen? (Order of the North Star or Medal of the North star). Interesting to see he has both medals from France and Sweden. I talked shortly to the Generals earlier on the day, but when I met them again the didn't have time for picture-taking. From left to right: Generalmajor (Major General), Oberst (Colonel), Brigadegeneral (Brigadier General) and behind them on the right is a Generál-Mayór (Major General). And this is just a nice picture, i wanted to share:
  21. Hi, I got this photo of Danish soldier and would like to find out more about that. Can someone please advise his rank, period of this uniform was in use (is it pre WW1?), etc. Very interesting gun - can it be for a cavalry? Thanks, Timo
  22. Hi all, I would like to share my very first medal from Denmark - Commemorative Medal for the War of 1864. Nice and interesting piece. If some of you have more information about this, I would be very happy to learn more! As far I know that this medal was awarded as a commemorative medal from 1864 Danish-Prussian war. Made in France. How many of these was aprox minted... 50,000-60,000?
  23. Hello Everybody. I recently purchased a Danish Medal, but I am not able to identify it. Is it military or Civil? Any information you can provide would be great. I attached a low resolution image to this medal, but I have two high-definition on PhotoBucket, if you follow this link: http://s752.photobuc...Danish%20Medal/ I appreciate any information you can give me. Take care. Linas
  24. Greetings All. I have a medal that I believe is Danish, but I am not sure. I would appreciate AS MUCH information about this medal as possible, particularly if it IS Danish, if it IS military, what was it specifically issued for, who qualified to receive it, when it was created, who made it, etc. Every tidbit of information will be useful. I have attached a Low Resolution photo of the medal here on the forum, but I have two High Resolution Medals on PhotoBucket, at the following link: http://s752.photobuc...y%20or%20Civil/ Thanks in advance for any information you can provide. Take care. Linas
  25. Greetings Everybody. I recently bought a curious medal on an on-line auction in either Denmark, Sweden, or Norway - I do not remember. It resembles some type of military medal, or possibly some association medal, or is it just a fantasy piece. I really do not know. If you have any thoughts, please let me know. I did not attached a low resolution medal on this post because I ried everything to reduce it size, but never made it. But I have high-resolution photos on PhotoBucket, if you follow this link: http://s752.photobuc...antasy%20Medal/ Any information would be useful. Thank you. Linas
