Hi, I am no expeert on these but from what I read, the wartime ones were steel. Most of the ones online are brass.... does that mean many bout brass ones after the war, or brass ones are being churned out today? best Chris -
From what I have read, there were 8 recipients of the Officer's Cross, with swords, of the Oldenburg House Merit Order of Peter Frederick Ludwig. Anyone know who the recipients were, or how I can find them without having to find numerous rank lists? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Stevenn -
Please find below pictures of an unknown officer's medal bar who did obviously have a connection to the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg. It shows the following awards: 1. Prussia, Iron Cross 2nd class 1914, OEK 1909 2. Prussia, Red eagle 4th class, OEK 1704 3. Prussia, Dienstauszeichnungskreuz for officers, OEK 1970 4. Prussia, Zentenarmedaille (1897), OEK 1965 5. Oldenburg, Friedrich August Cross 2nd class 1914, OEK 1563 6. Oldenburg, Knights Cross 2nd class with Crown of the Haus- und Verdienstorden, OEK 1520 (missing) Since the last award is placed behind the Friedrich August Cross, it should be the civil version of the house order. Any observations are more than welcome! -
Just happened to get this as it is part of a group... apparently wartime ones were all iron and Brass/Bronze ones are postwar?

This one baffles me, falling into a giant data void: late 19th century old civilians. The Traveling Museum therefore calls upon our Research Gnome brethren in Kapitel Groß-Berlin !!!! Prussian Crown Order 3rd Class with Red Cross on 1870/71 Commemorative ribbon (396 awarded--have the Roll BUT...) 1870/71 War Medal in steel (presumably on "noncombatant" ribbon for actual field ambulance/hospital type work in France) Brunswick House Order of Henry the Lion (? BrH3a...) Oldenburg 1870/71 Cross for Sacrifice and Loyalty to Duty (163 awarded-- INSTANT answer if compared with KO3rKEBd but I have no Roll until 1914) Bavarian 1870/71 Merit Cross (I don't have number awarded... but in a TRIO with the above two?!) Russian Order of St. Anna Russian Order of St. Stanislaus Italtian Order of the Crown of Italy (which would be a very very early award) Johanniter Orden-Professkreuz NOT a career Prussian civil servant, since none of the usual Red Eagle etc etc stuff. This was a Protestant noble Prussian... enthusiastic Red Cross volunteer. A Rittergutbesitzer or some sort of local Kommerzienrat or..... Can't get past only having the KO3 Roll to work with... and by the time I have civilian sources like the 1908/09 Ordensalmanach... this guy was dead and gone. This is a pre-1897 chain--no Centenary Medal. Was the wearer dead even before that year? Aaaaagghhh. -

I have this nice Oldenburg ribbon bar, which is a similar bar to that on a thread started by Christer. This bar has a few extras to it. Vor Dem Feinde clasp, Austrian bravery medal and 40 years faithful service device. Its in very good condition. Picked this up at one of our monthly New England shows recently. Prussian Gefreiter rank button, appears to be plain Landsturm straps (but not Ldstm numbers on collar)... wearing both cockades ~ 1918, 1919 at latest? Somebody erased a lightly pencilled inscription off the front leaving only illegible impressions but the point is-- look how much wear there already was on his OK1 and Mattweiß Wound Badge!

HI! After receiving this amazing picture of some oldenburg officers during or after ww1 I try to identify them and also their decorations. I cannot identify the last three awards of the man in the center and of the one right - the last one looks like one of the prussian service medals, but wearing by an officer?? So it would be a great help if someone of you could identify these decorations or one of the men of the picture!! Thanks for your help! westfale -
Found a picture of this bar whilst surfing the internet today and to the best of my knowledge it is not for sale. It is quite interesting, the LD1 and MVK3X combo being as far as I know impossible, yet all other aspects look legit. Perhaps a replaced MVO4X? The other interesting thing is obviously at the end! Dear GMIC Members For most it is common knowledge that Oldenburg has an enormous amount of high quality fakes in circulation & a good many are being valued as orginals. In regards to the stars & officer class examples there is a simple step that will allow collectors to differentiate a good example from a bad one. All genuine Bernard Knauer examples should have his first initial B stamped as B KNAUER on the reverse. Examples without the B and reads only KNAUER should be avoided & treated as post 1918 copies. Hello Everyone, I am looking for some information on the Vor Dem Feinde Spange. Are these are these typically magnetic? Do period made pieces have a loop the ribbon is threaded through as oposed to prongs? The ones with 2 prongs, should these be flat or round? and are these of a later manafacure 20s/30s TR? Hello, i was able to buy this wonderful bar from another collector. I wonder if some of the specialists here are willing to help to identify the man behind the awards. I already tried by going through the 1914 ranglist of IR91 but without any success. Also i ve a pic from the seller showing his later feldspange with the HOH3X, maybe this could help. Thx in advance.
