Here is an interesting Commander of the Ernestine House Order with the added dates "1914" and "1918". The cross tests at 14k gold and the weight is 38.1 g. As I understand it, these were awarded to military officers for non-combat achievements. 1918 would be the year of bestowal. I have included a couple of close-ups of the dates. There does not appear to be a standard format for the dates that I can find. Any enlightenment on whether these may simply be later additions would, of course, be appreciated as I haven't seen enough of these to get a good read on it. Any further information on the award itself would also be appreciated.

Attached are images of the - Komtur 2nd class awarded on the 25th March 1913 (by Bury, Hanau) and the - Komtur 1st class awarded after WWI (by Meybauer, Berlin) to Willy Tischbein (see http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/37362-who-is-grovater-tischbein/?hl=Tischbein). The order continued to be awarded until this was officially forbidden with decree of the 14th November 1935. The first class was only awarded 63 times after WWI.

Hi I am looking for a picture of a medal issued by sachsen-coburg-gotha (or its predecessor as a Duchy) for serviced during the Befreiungskriege against Napoleon. I have a painting (which I cannot show here) of someone who lived 1796-1864, served as a scg Geheimrat and amongst a PJO, a BZL2b and a SEHO3 wears a medal with a ribbon that looks either black/dark green striped. Its a long shot, but maybe someone here can help me out with identifiying the medal. regards David

Hello gentlemen, having a medal bar identified which I didn't think was possible (thanks again Rick), gives courage to present another one. I posted this one also in the NC topic. Maybe this one can be identified, or be narrowed down to X possibilities. Why do I think/hope this? * Because of the limited issue of the SEHO Carl Eduard mit X; * The lack of other interesting awards. But I might be too optimistic. Love to hear opinions. Greetings, Poulton Palmer

My Grandfather was in the Seaforth highlanders. His service recorgds show that he was “Decorated by HRH the Duke of Albany (Regency Duke of Sax Coburg & Gotha) with the decoration “Silberne Medalles des S. Ernest” d. 20.8.10.” I contacted the Gotha Archives who were very helpful and sent me a number of records, one of which showed that he was awarded a gold (not silver) medal in Fort George on August 15, 1911 for loyal service. The Gotha archives had no record of why he was awarded the medal but said “The loyal services of your Grandfather should evidently relate to services accomplished in military actions as the medal was issued to military personnel only.” I thought that I would be able to find a something about the medal at the Highlanders museum at Fort George but they have no record of him having received it. Can anyone tell me why a British soldier could have received this medal. One clue might be that it related to the Boer War and that he was involved in some action with a member of that family. This could have been Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, who saw service in South Africa, or more likely, his son, Prince Arthur of Connaught who was in the in the Boer War and saw active duty with the 7th Hussars at Krugersdorp and my grandfather was also there. If it was related to the Boer War a reason for the change from a silver to gold medal could be that by 1911 he had been promoted to sergeant. Any help would be appreciated.
