  1. Hello Everyone, Having nearly finished EK equivalents for Junior Officers,I just need a Saxe-Meiningen Medaille "Für Verdienst im Krieg" mit Krone in Bronze not Zinc (Medal for Merit in War with Crown) if you have one..., I thought I would try a put together a wee collection of long service awards (not the Landwehr) from the Imperial German States. This is what I have so far...
  2. Hi Guys, I am thinking of purchasing this Hohenzollern Goldene Ehrenmedaille mit Schwertern. Does anyone know what would cause the inconsistency in finish from front to back? From the comparisons I have been able to make this piece seems good. What does everyone think? All comments gratefully appreciated

  4. In the year 2013 we have any anniversaries. 200 years iron cross is one of this. Less known is the 100 anniversary of the foudation of the first navy unit. All starts with the "Allerhöchste Kabinettsordre" from 3rd May 1913. Where the german emperor order the creation of two units: 1. Marine-Luftschiffabteilung located at Johannesthal / Berlin 2. Marine-Fliegerabteilung located at Puzig near Danzig. I ask you all to post everything related to the german navy aviation from 1913 to 1920. Everything like badges, documents, paper, medal / ribbon bars, uniform and parts of this. Kind regards Alex
  5. Let's see what we can dig up in the way of Freicorps awards for Schlesien. First up is the Schlesien Eagle 1st class with swords.
  6. Dear All, I have come across this rather puzzling Hohenlohe Knight's badge, which has many features (including the motto) of the Order of the Phoenix. The bird however looks more like a pigeon than a phoenix and the monogram on the reverse appears to be different from that normally encountered. Any help gratefully received. All the best, Paul Paulhttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_01_2015/post-3085-0-93510600-1421240928.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_01_2015/post-3085-0-52092300-1421240950.jpg
  7. As I'm sure alot of you already know a German Signature Database was set up approximately 7 months ago ( http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/forum/268-germany-signature-database/ ). Since then it has had over 420 seperate entries, and even more if those that have been posted in the 'Unknown' sections are taken into account. The accumulated 'Views' for the section as a whole runs into the many thousands and this has all been down to the generosity of members sharing what they have and to who I would like to express a big Thank You. As a constant work in progress there is always room for more so if anyone has an original signature in their collection that they know the identity of be it on a citation, in a soldbuch or a book dedication etc, it is from the relevant period and you are happy to share then your additions are very much welcome, be they a well known official or a lowly Kompanie-Chef. The Guidelines give an indication of what is (and is not) required and also shows how to sort the database in alphabetical order for those that are unaware of how to do so, and following a suggestion from a fellow member there is also a Master Index so you can see at a simple glance who is already in the database. As always, suggestions are always welcome. Thank you. KEViN/Hucks
  8. Here is a new photo to my collection A group of gentlemen from 1866? - 1870 War , I will post a couple of zooms so you can better se the medals ! Regards Christer

  12. These are my hands down favourite decorations of Imperial Germany. I don't think any other state awarded an Enameled Decoration to the Enlisted Ranks First off is Lübeck
  13. Hello. Regarding Johns Invitation and huge help in past time, Ive decided to make my account. Today I would like an advice concerning few badges: But hopefully some help with pasting images would be awsome. Thank you
  14. I am considering do a reprint of Neal O'Connor's volume 1 of Aviation Awards of Imperial Germany WWI. I will of course have to have the permission of his family and/or estate first. I believe that V1 is almost unobtainable and if found can sell for several hundred dollars. My questions are: 1. Would you buy a reprint of V1? 2. What would you be willing to pay for a reprint? Thanks for the market research help.
  15. Hello everyone, I'm being offered this ribbon bar recently and I thought it is so special that it uses Rettungsmedaille ribbon for the first 3 places, and having a lot of devices on it, the last 3 positions are actually prussian Lifesaving medal, Turkish Lifesaving awards for the 1st and 2nd actions. Can anybody tell me if the combination could be possible and perhaps a wartime original? all comments are welcome, thanks.
  16. Dear forumites, I'd like to present to newly adquired ribbon bar. The first one, it is named (thanks Christian), the second still unnamed. Feldspange des Oberst Hensel. 1.) Preussen: Eisernes Kreuz, 1914, 2. Klasse; 2.) Deutsches Reich: Kriegsverdienstkreuz, 2. Klasse mit Schwertern; 3.) Medaille Winterschlacht im Osten; 4.) Preussen: Kronenorden, 4. Klasse mit Schwertern; 5.) Deutsches Reich: Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer; 6.) Preussen: Dienstauszeichnungskreuz für Offi ziere; 7.) Roter Adler Orden, 4. Klasse; 8.) Zentenarmedaille (1897); 9.)Thailand: Der sehr hohe Orden des Weißen Elefanten; graue Rückseitenabdeckung. 1904 war Oberst Hensel im Feldart. Rgt. General-Feldmarschall Graf Waldersee (Schleswigsches) Nr. 9. May somebody has more information about Oberst Hensel's details in WW2. Thanks in advance for your interest.

  18. Hi, I only thought of it when it was too late, as usual... and I would go back and do the editing to all the threads, but I am more of an EK document guy, so the errors I would make would be numerous... If you have posted a bar, AND you have time, could you go back and edit the post, adding a small description as to what is on the bar, and anything else that comes to mind? It would be a huge added value to the threads. As it is it is great, they show all possible combinations, and for a "anything other than EK dud" like me, they are a real eye opener. Thanks for all the contributions! Best Chris
  19. i have a rad hewer with the number "br 251" stamped on it and i would like to know what it means. i was told by one that it is a serial number and another has a hewer but says that the number is a batallion number. i have been looking on the internet and found these two webpages and would like to know if this is what this number means http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gliederungen/BauBtl/BauBtl251-R.htm http://www.stampsx.com/ratgeber/stempel-datenbank.php?stempelsuche_ort=15843 or could this number mean something else? thanks john
  20. Gentlemen, I have recently had the good fortune to obtain an interesting Ethiopian group, which although missing two medals, is a group which I should be able to complete. The mounted group consists of : Order of Menelik, 4th Class (missing and a "spare worn Haile Selassie merit medal has been substitutued) Order of the Star, 4th Class Large gilt Haile Selassie Medal of Merit Haile Selassie Jubilee Medal 25th Anniversary of Liberation Medal Norway - Medal of Olav V Greece - Order of George I, 6th Class Holland - Order of Orange Nassau, 5th Class (or possibly medal?) Denmark - Royal Medal of Recompense (Frederick IX) - 2nd Type 1965-71 Belgium - Order of the Crown, 4th Class What attracted me to the group is that it was the first time I had seen a mounted group including the Jubilee and 25th Anniversary medals, both relatively scarce, especially the Jubilee medal. It also provides some scope for research in as much as I hope to be able to track down the state visits by Haile Selassie to the overseas countries or indeed visits by Heads of State to Addis Ababa. From the grades of awards, both Ethiopian and from overseas, I would infer that the recipient was an official at the Court of Haile Selassie. Whilst I should be able to source an Order of Menelik to complete the Ethiopian portion of the group my reasoning for posting this on the Northern European Forum is to ask fellow members with knowledge of such awards: Is the missing Dutch order indeed the 5th Class of the Order of Orange Nassau or a Medal of the Order and if the latter of what grade? Was it a gilt medal removed because it was thought to be gold? Were the medals awarded to foriegners during state visits or were only orders presented? With regard to the Danish and Norwegian medals - are these particulary scarce and are they well documented? Any information on these Danish and Norwegian awards would be welcome. Finally with regard to the Begium Order of the Crown 4th Class - as it is mounted last and of the 4th Class, could this infer the increasing seniority or rank of the recipient assuming the foriegn awards are mounted in chronological order of receipt. (I am not ignoring the Greek award but it is not the subject matter of this particular forum.) Ideally what I need to do is track down the order of state visits to Ethiopia or by Haile Selassie to the countries represented in this group - perhaps a job for a wet weekend in January? Many thanks in advance for any information provided. Kind regards and festive greetings from Riyadh, Owain Raw-Rees
  21. I wonder if you can help me with two pics of an WH Major ? The first pic is dated 1937 on the back, and shows him with 9 ribbon bar and the second pic is later with a KVK added and some other bringing his ribbon bar up to an impressive 12 !! The question is what does he have ? First the full pic
  22. What would you say is the most unusual award to find on the bar of a german soldier ? Best Chris
