Gentlemen, Recently I bought a large lot of mixed badges. About half of them were Austrian from a variety of organizations and time frames. Some I have identified and other not so here they are for your consideration. The first one is the Kriegserinnerungskreuz - 1939-1945. This award was presented to Austrians who were members of the Österreichischer kameradschaftsbund (ÖKB) who had serviced in the armed forces in WWII. It was the only WWII related award that was allowed to be worn on their uniforms by members of the Bundesheer (BH). The Österreichischer kameradschaftsbund (ÖKB) continues to exist and is formed mostly of serving and former members of the BH. First up is the medal from my collection. Most of these awards were made of bronze but they exist in other material including some in plastic. Following that, a medal that I found on the net with a distinct black finish which is probably not made of bronze. It is made by the firm of Schwertner. The medal can be found with a plain back or as is the one from my collection with a decorated back. Next a picture of a BH soldier wearing his medals including the Kriegserinnerungskreuz - 1939-1945 last on his medal bar. Last but not least, a ribbon bar as worn by a veteran of the BH. It would not have been worn this way on his BH uniform as it contains WWII Wehrmacht ribbons. These last two pictures were provided to me by Peterm. Regards, Gordon -

Here is a ribbon bar from my collection which belonged to an Austrian, who retained ties to Germany through period 1934 - 1938. This ribbon bar was worn on the German Generals uniform in the film Escape to Victory with Michael Cain and Sylvester Stallone. A nice little piece. Not one for the film, but was amazed to see one of the pieces from my collection on the big screen!!

Hello. I have ''10 years anniversary medal'', or ''Erinnerungsmedaille'' of the Austrian First Republic, in solid silver 800/1000, with 3 hallmarks (''800'' for silver, ''BH'' for producer? and state mark for silver and for the city of production - ''W''-Vienna, as shown below on photo). Unfortunately, I don't have any literature on Austrian post-WWI decorations and all I could find are few internet examples of some cheaper variants of this medal made of bronze (or silvered bronze). I must say, it's very surprising for me that there is so little information on this medal on the internet. I expected much more, to be honest. So, these facts still remain unknown to me: - who exactly issued this medal (state, or some organization, political party...), and to whom was it awarded (civilians, army, both...) ? - Is this variant more rare than those made in bronze? - is this variant made in silver known in any decorations-related sources, reference books, price guides, (auction) catalogues...? I would be very thankful if someone could tell me more about this medal and this particular silver variant. Thanks. -
Hi Newbie here, so please go easy on me! I returned from a week in Salzburg yesterday, and although I'm not a medal collector per se, I came across the one shown in images below in an antique shop. The lady told me that it was awarded for 25 years as an Austrian Officer and showed me the back of the medal with the number '25' . I have no reason whatsoever to doubt her; I was just hoping that someone on here might be able to shed a little light on more details regarding this medal, such as a date of issue or any other interesting facts (perhaps value?) Hello, My grandfather (Rodolfo Muntjan/Muntian/Muntean) was born in Romania and started his cadet training with the kuk, I presume in Fiume, in 1910. He finished his training in 1914, then served as a lietenant in the kuk Kreigsmarine 1914-1918. Does anyone have access to ANY naval records/info about the kuk? I have done the standard internet searches and have lots of historical background notes already. Thanks! -

Hi, I'm new to this forum but have a few enquires to whom has time to reply to them. I have a collection of 18 postcards from my great great uncle starting with 1907 up till 1931, which according to my mother who translated them most are love letters to his wifes and mistresses, and some are between friends and acquaintances. I can follow these cards and where they came from, and most are from Vienna, Paris, Bucharest, Basarabia (which is now the Moldavian Republic) and what now is Ukraine (Austro-Hungarian Empire). My mother who is Ukrainian managed to translate some of the words, but the rest are a jumble between romanian, Ukrainian, russian and german. The postcards are very beautiful, and all of them have women photographed on them. Some of them are nudes, and those are the earlier ones (I heard my great great uncle was a real lady's man when he was young). Some of them are from the Military Hospital in Vienna where he writes about his wounds he got in the war (had three fingers blown off and his arm was left paralysed). My question is, how much can they be worth? I live in England and I presume maybe in this part of Europe they might not be of such great interest. I can attach photo's of the postcards if anyone is willing to help. Also, the postcards have provenance seeing as records of the people who wrote them are still kept well in the family and can confirm the story and the lives of their authors. Also there is kept a correspondence from that time, who tells the life's story of the postcards sender and receiver. To me they are very precious because they offer a glimpse in the life of ordinary people when Europe kept shifting and changing in what it is today. A newbie here.... Perhaps this is a silly question but I need an answer in order to catalog several dozen large Austrian KFA commemorative medallions. Can someone please tell me what the acronym "KFA" stands for? Perhaps also point me in the direction where I can find more info? Thanks, in advance. S
