Finland My Finnish Collection 1918-1945
christerd posted a topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Hi, just want to show my awards from Finland. i don´t have the $$$$$$$ stuff , but still got a collection worth showing I think. I start from the beginning in 1918 My first item is a Commerative medal for participating in the war 1918 , made by Sporrong & Co Stockholm Sweden in about 100 000 pieces given to all that took part in the war , including Germans +12000 and Swedish + 1000. This medal have the bar 2 Karjala Rintama " which means Carelian Front , they could also be awarded with a rose on the ribbon for bravery. -
As per request, I'll start a personnel list of German Officers in Finland in 1918. As the whole thing is translated from finnish, some obscure ranks and units might be incorrectly translated or missing. Also, the list lacks most of the first names. Any corrections and/or additions are more than welcome. I'll start with the Ostseevision, while Detachement Brandenstein, Sonderverbande der Ostsee and some lower-rank officers & miscellaneous persons will follow later. Pete

Hi Gents, A quick question. I know the cross was established in 1938 and awarded to those who took part in Battle of Vilppula in 1918. I found 4 different types of this cross, can anyone tell me which of them were officially awarded and which are private purchase items? Or at least what was the earlier type of the cross from these four? Any info is welcome! 1. Type one, made of bronze. Often met on old medal bars, I believe I've seen an example of this type among Mannerheim medals. 2. Type 2, made of iron. 3. Type 3, bronze again 4. And a final one, made of iron.

Hello. I have a unique Order of the White Rose with its presentation box. Please take a look at the photos. It has a unique 'button' on the ribbon. Anyone know what this is for? Also, based on the photos, can someone give an approximate date of issue? Thanks. Linas

Hello Gents, today i found this cross at one of fake monglers hangouts. I know there has been several batches made of the cross but this one doesn´t match those i have in my reference files. Perhaps it´s me that is extra jumpy since the Hero aka Carsten Staegemeir hangs on that site i found it on... Any opinions regarding the cross?

Was cleaning out my closets looking the the rest of the Polish items I have yet to sell and pulled out all my Finnish tunics. Some have trousers and breeches and most have caps though they're in a box. I thought I'd share for those who like Finnish militaria. I'm very fond of the Finnish Winter War and Continuation War. The Finns fight hard there is not doubt.

Good day to you all, Does anybody know where it's possible to find long spare ribbons (6 in. / 16 cm. at least) for the Finnish 1941-1945 Continuation War medal, or who is likely to sell that. Thank you in advance for letting me know. All the best. Jean-Samuel Karlen.

Here is my newest addition to my collection, a simple looking medal but very seldom seen It is the medal for Peasants March against communism July 7th 1930 , it was the extreme right wing Lappo Movement who organized a march to Helsinki with 12 000 people. How many medals that where struck is unknown to me,but since the Lappo was banned in 1932 I suppose not many of these medals was saved. Christer

Finland Finnish Order of the White Rose- query
P.F. posted a topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Gentlemen, Just a quick question regarding the Finnish Order of the White Rose. I have seen lower grades of the Order with swords running diagonally through the cross, but wondered if the GRAND CROSS came with swords? I cannot find any photos, just images of the Grand Cross without swords. Thank you Pierce -

Finland Rare as a Knights Cross w Oakleaves
christerd posted a topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Rare awards dosn´t need to look expensive or even look welldone , some awards are just rare This simple looking medal was only awarded 730 times , less the a Knights Cross w Oakl ..... ( without any further comparsion) This is the Medal of Merit for Frontsmen´s Union of Liberation War , Finland 1918 There was also a Cross of Merit and that is still rarer , only 80 awarded...... But even this medal is very hard to find and it was a nice last finding for 2014 Happy New Year everyone Christer -
Dear Gentlemen, Where there other makers of the Cross of Liberty besides Tillander during WWII? The badge I have have no hallmarks, see pictures. Any information would be helpfull. Thank you.

christerd posted a topic in Northern European & Baltic States
This cross is for sale but I really wonder if its real ? They are really rare , and all I have seen was made of silver with silver marks , but this Cross has no marks at all ?? Any opinions Christer -
After a long hunt I got this cross in the mailbox today a Liberty Cross III class 1918 , not easy to find , only 973 pieces awarded , and of them I think less than 700 to Finnish soldiers ( 45 to Swedish and 200 ? to Germans.) I got right now 200 + names in my database so I have some more to go This come from Finland , and looking at the mounting I´m quite sure it was awarded to an Finnish Officer. Now ´m I looking for a 4th class non combat 1918 and the rarest of all 1918 crosses , the ones with Red Cross $$$$$$ Christer

Finland Strange Finnish Liberty Cross sold
christerd posted a topic in Northern European & Baltic States
This 2nd class Liberty Cross was sold on EBAY recently , I "borrowed" the pics from there. The ribbon is of course wrong , this ribbon is for 3rd and 4th class but besides that the front lookes quite ok . But the back ?? Seller says it is a German made version ? Is it one of the few new versions without year ? I have never seen a 2nd class 1941 + so I´m totally lost here. the price was more than 200 Euro Any Finnish experts out there ? Christer -
Hello Gents, I have a german minichain with this medal. I´ve never seen this before. Maybe there is someone out there who can help me ? Every help appreciated. Regards Andreas
