Does anyone know why/how the French government continued to award various long service and honour medals to Vietnamese people after 1945? I sometimes see them with dates from the 50s-70s? Are these for Vietnamese people living in France? Did the government continue to give medals after they were gone? Any info would be great? Below is an example to illustrate. Art

2 pics that came from this group... http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26931 Unfortunately I dont think any are from him. I think one is from a comrade, one was sent to him in 1910... Maybe, just maybe this is the widow he later married with her first husband (maybe he knew them before the war already) long shot but possible....

Since many nice pictures of al Valore Militare medals for the Italian 2nd War of Independence (1859) circulate on the forum, I thought it would be interesting to add this one: it is an unusual engraving, with "Armata d'Italia 1859" instead of the usual "Guerre d'Italie 1859". I have the recipient's history from French archives, a very interesting career, I must say; the medal has been in my collection for more than 20 years and comes from a reputed dealer; type is F.G., engraving is correct, identical to many other 1859 specimens of my collection and I have no reason to doubt about its origina

Hello. I just purchased this interesting commander’s cross. It states ‘Union et Maintien’ on the cross center. As I researched this, I found a certificate for this exact cross, but in a Chevalier class. There the collector referenced it as Belgian. I have a number of questions: 1. Is this Belgian or French? 2. If it is Belgian, why no crown? 3. Who issued and awarded this medal (a government ministry or some association)? 4. I know this is for Social and Philanthropic services rendered. Do you know though the criteria? Especially, why were the
