  1. Gentlemen, during my studies on the Napoleonic Wars in Spain, I found a short notice that the british parliament endowed a golden medal for merit for the conquest of the city of Salmanca in 1812. The medal was out of pure gold, had a diameter from 5 cm. On the avers side the sitting Britannia is shown with a leaf of laurels. The revers side should show the inscription: Salamanca. The medal was awarded only to the higher comanders who lead the allied troops in this battle. The medal was worn around the neck. This is all, what I found, does anybody has a photo or more information on this special medal? It is not the normal medal with the clasp Salamanca! Thanks in advance.
  2. Hello, have someone an idea about this sword and price? Thank you
  3. Hello! I translate today to english a small article I wrote about the spanish Order of Military Merit, reading it, new collectors will understand how to know in what era the award was made, that's not a high level article, but if it helps to someone, I would be pleased. http://www.vfmr-ordersandmedals.com/Guias-de-coleccionismo/Essencial-questions-about-Spanish-Awards-1-The-Order-of-Military-Merit-Periods My plan is continue writting some articles focused in the collector point of view, so feel free for share ideas about what would be interesting to read there
  4. Hello there, I would love to recieve expert advice about the cross attached in the following link: http://loaderprice2.blogspot.com.ar/2014/08/spanienkreuz_20.html It has L/13 maker´s mark - meybauer-, if any of you have information could be very helpful for me. Thanks, Pablo.
  5. My newest acquisitions. Any comments? Does anyone know what the significance is for the little horizontal rectangle in the 12 o'clock position? Thanks.
  6. Hi All, I have just recently become interested in learning about the Pennisular War and would like a recommendation for the very best starter book (general overview) for studying these campaigns. Thank you for any information you can offer.
  7. Greetings all. I just acquired this Spanish badge. I do not know for what branch of service this is (red cross?), and from what era. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Linas
  8. Greetings All, I just purchased this medal from an auction in Spain. Even though the ribbon bar seems Spanish, I know nothing about the medal itself. Any and all assistance in identifying it and any supplementary information would be greatly appreciated. Take care. Linas P.S. it is the best photo I could get.
  9. Could someone please tell me what exactly a Cordón de la victoria 1936-39 is, and what were the requirements for earning one?
  10. Only a small item....It never ceases to amaze me what can be found on ebay... A mini of the Military Merit medal still on the original sales display card, by F.W Assmann. Not much of the silver wash left on the obverse....
  11. Are the epaulets / epaulettes in the attached image a pair, I'm pretty sure not but I'd rather know for sure. Similar To: Pair of Spanish Brass Epaulettes. Early 20th century. Each applied with a royal crown above entwined initials of Alfonso XIII, King of Spain (r. 1896-1931), the reverse stamped Lucas Saenz, Madrid on red felt backing. http://fineart.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=5003&lotIdNo=6131 (http://www.icollector.com/item.aspx?i=7973509) http://en.todocoleccion.net/original-epaulettes-king-of-spain-alfonso-xiii-age-quartermaster-official-corps~x31382448 http://www.intariamilitaria.com/CatMar11.htm
  12. I would need to check the original Heer regulations establishing the 'ESPA?A' Spanish volunteers (Blue Division) armshield. I have checked my sources (Littlejohn, Scurr, etc) but I could not find them. Any clue about how to find them? The 'ESPA?A' armshield was used as a service badge in Spain after WWII by Blue Division veterans serving in the armed forces, and the info mentioned above would be useful to my study on the 20th century Spanish armed forces badges & insignia. Best regards
  13. Hi all, I think the topic title and description say it all. These were the Spanish version of the award the Germans gave for same. They're of totally different design. I love this one since it incorporates the Iron Cross as part of it's design. Plus it's having an eagle, crown and the Kremlin Towers... it's just got everything. 14. Hi all, I believe that's what this is... too lazy to run down to the bunker to look it up. Nothing I specialized in... part of a big trade... yes, about twenty years ago... you guessed it! Just loved the design. Thanks for looking, Dan
  15. This one was sold on ebay some time ago (I was not the buyer). While I would say I know a few things about German bars, this is not the case in Spanish ones. I have thus always wondered whether this bar is real, with the DAO, EK2 and "the other" Blue Division on it. I don't even know whether these all belong together. Chris
