David Gregory Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Naxos,What a terrific family group!Did you receive everything together or did you have to obtain his service record details from one of the archives?Did he leave a diary or any memoirs? They would would certainly make interesting reading.David
Paul R Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 That is a great set!!! Were any stories ever passed down?Paul
Naxos Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 Thanks David and Paul, sorry to say no stories were passed down. Julius was Ratschreiber in Ittersbach after the war and died in 1929. My father was born in 1923, he could hardly remember his father. Most of the material I got from the Badisches Landesarchiv in Karlsruhe. I do remember seeing Julius' Milit?rpass and some award documents at home, but that is a long time ago - who knows where the documents are now (hopefully not destroyed - maybe in one of your collections). All the Best, Hardy

Naxos Posted April 3, 2008 Author Posted April 3, 2008 (edited) This is a great thread!! Do you have any other items belonging to your grand parents? Did you ever get to meet them?Paul; I have a few things, like his watch and some of his books and my Grandmother's jewelry - I remember my Gandmother vaguely (she died when I was three). Julius died in 1929 long before my time.Hardy Edited April 3, 2008 by Naxos
ostprussenmann_new Posted December 4, 2010 Posted December 4, 2010 Hardy I know this is a little late, but this is a great grouping of your grandfather. I wish that I had as much as you did on my Great Grandfather Johann. Again you have definitely answered many questions that I had on his service. Jason
VtwinVince Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Hardy, great story and items. I think your grandfather was backing up my grandfather during the assault on Flanders in 1914.
