Then, of course, there is the Wilhelmskreuz with swords and crown - often mislabeled Wilhelmskreuz first class. I hope that this information is informative.

    Best wishes,

Wilhelm Cross with swords and crown

What was this awarded for and to what ranks?

Also, I've seen darker versions with differing pin and catch. Could there be multiple patterns/makers?

I shouldn't think so, given how few were awarded. Daniel's got the Roll and... I have actually seen and scanned one "dog license" award document.

Hard to say who an "average" recipient was, since they ranged from Captains to Generaloberst. Probably about average were Obersts-- all home service guys whose full careers and other awards I haven't gotten into, but All Will Be Revealed with Daniel's W?rttemberg Rolls.

I agree with Rick. According to Nimmergut, only 121 were awarded and I am sure that Daniel will sort this out once and for all.

Again according to Nimmergut, officially these pieces were made by the K?niglich W?rttembergische M?nzant and are consistent with the example in posts #15 and #16. He also refers to examples by both Paul Meybauer and Godet, neither of which he gives any official status. Lastly, over the years, I have seen many good to awful copies of this award.

    Gentlemen,

While we are back here in W?rttemberg, I would like to present a Bronze Carl Olga medal. These medals are really quite beautiful. The red cross is an attached separate piece. There is a higher grade in silver, but personally, I feel that in a subtle way the bronze medals come across as particularly beautiful.
