JimZ
I do not think you are missing anything at all. I think the seller probably is!And what he is missing is the 'small' difference between an OGPW 1985 and any of the previous types. I have seen 1985 OGPWs sell at over $30 plus post and I already ask myself .... Why??? Same with the red star really..... At least as far as I am noticing. The last T6 red banner of labour with extra zero precceding serial number..... I did not pay much attention to that and well valued it as a normal ORBL .... but it did sell at around $200! But nothing much to miss on these....methinks! .........And another thing...some sellers also may think that a fancy price makes for a fancy piece!Jim
NavyFCO
Well, I've heard of raising prices, but if 1985 OGPWs start selling for $122 a piece, I'm done with Soviet collecting - I couldn't afford it anymore! Seriously, I think some sellers know that the prices have gone up, so they're taking a chance to see what price they can maximize from their awards. The OGPW is way overpriced, and the Red Star is overpriced for this serial number range. However, if the Red Star was of a range I needed for my research, I MIGHT be tempted to buy it at this price (though I'm not saying it's worth it!) Christian Zulus
Recent auction results from Sotheby'sGentlemen, have a look at the recent auction results from Sotheby's: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?s=&showtop...st&p=127820 to get a feeling in which direction the train is leaving .600,000 USD is 12x (twelve times!) higher, than the estimated auction result for an - rather simple - St. Andrew 1cl from around 1840 without breast star.It would be the same, if an full Cavaliers Glory-Trio of the very 1st grade would go into the auction with an estimated price of 15,000 - 18,000 USD and might get a hammer price of 180,000 USD The actions of "Czar Putin" will drive the price ranges up for top SU-Awards!Best regardsChristian
JimZ
To calrify, Order of Red star or Order of the Great Patriotic War (1985) are not exactly in the same range as top soviet or imperial awards. The pieces above are very common! For the sake of someone starting to collect Soviet ODMS, the these 2 orders are prices at without any thought and are NOWHERE near being worth $122 (OGPW85) and $94 (ORS). However, as Dave did rightly point out, sometimes even the more common numbered award may have collectors willing to pay an outrageous price (compared to the market) if they are looking for a particular serial number!
