Here's the first class awarded to my Grandfather

    Dear Ivan,

    nice award  .

Did are Grandfather also receive first the 3cl & 2cl, so that "Merit to the People" might maybe have regulations of consecuteive awardings, like Soviet, Glory, Labour Glory & Motherland - or like the Bulgarian "Order of Labour" ?

I had been asking about consecutive awardings in that thread: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=16736 .

    Best regards

    Dear Christian

Nope there were no such consecutive awards in Yugoslavia, he also recieved the 2nd class of the award but thats by pure coincedense. I only found the 2nd class recently and I haven't taken a picture of it yet, but when I do I will post it. It's quite old he got it before 1953.

Are the serial numbers on Orders of Merit actually the same as the serial numbers displayed on their certificates?

Does anybody know the criteria for Yugo awards, there are plenty of photos of named awards around in print & on web sites, but I've only ever read very basic info on why they were actually awarded - what did you have to do to get an Order of Merit for example?

Order of merit to the people is given for special merits in combat against enemy and for liberation of the country, for merit in building of socialism and self goverment, for organising and strengthening of defence, security and independence of the country and also for merits in the field of economy, science and culture.

    Dear Leigh,

sorry, the numbers do not correspond :( .

If there are any numbers at the large document, then these numbers are only internal numbers of the chancellory (starting with each year new), when they issued the document.

    Best regards

    Congratulation Soviet,

award has low serial number an even a document. Maybe one day we will be able to reconstruct this spot ot the history.

It seems to me that it will be difficult job.

I hope that the bearer of awards had benefits in Ex-Yugoslavia. And if yes then there were Lists of Persons who were awarded in order to manage the benefits. Maybe It will help us to find this out.

We are certainly at the begining - but as always at the beginn it is very interesting.

I strongly support out project to start work an our catalog.

    Again congratulations

General rule of history: Anything that has ever required any government to pay money or extend befefits to their citizens has given birth to mounds of paper detailing how much, and what, and to whom, and for how long. Likewise, anything that ever cost that government any money to make (or buy) -- like ODM -- had leagues of bookkeepers watching over the process and recording the expenditures.

Who can access the (former) Yugoslavian archives -- assuming they still exist. Where are they anyway?
