One understands shortage in times of war but for anyone who wore this very "prickly" jacket, would know what I am on about.Kev.... any chance that your regiment had these BDU's to go with the old pattern webbing? I have no idea which one - and it certainly has an unusual cut and appearance. Could it have been tanks ? These were sometimes dyed black for issue to PoW's or, since yours is dated 1951, to civilian workers for the British army in Germany - there were also Canadian units based in Germany in the British Zone.
