Tiger-pie Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 (edited) This is a little known museum at Garden Island Dockyard. It used to be a workshop, and in fact the last time I went through its doors prior to early this year it was full of stinking stokers (circa 1990). It has been converted into a modern, if small, museum with one of the best harbourside views around. The details on how to get there etc. can be found in the link below.http://www.navy.gov.au/ranhc/Regards;Johnsy Edited May 22, 2007 by Tiger-pie

Tiger-pie Posted May 21, 2007 Author Posted May 21, 2007 The Burma Star in Carr's group appears to be a replacement.
Guest Rick Research Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Back a million years ago when I was a lad (early 1970s) I used to correspond with RAN retired Commander Leonard Forsythe, BEM. I'd send colored pencil drawings of unknown ribbons and he'd send me snippets from his original ribbons collection to match. (Always wondered if his house in Drummoyne, NSW was FULL of ribbon... he had "everything").The circular path of memory leading to-- he was in the HMAS "Sydney" association and all his envelopes used to bear that design.Which makes me wonder: why, with all the technology which now exists, has the greatest mystery of the RAN STILL not been solved:WHERE IS THE SYDNEY? Titanic-- found. Bismarck--found.WHERE IS THE SYDNEY?(Kormoran would be nice too, but then some of HER crew survived.)

Having deposited our quarry "around the corner" at Willy Creek we tied up alongside and I had just finished securing the lines and was running out a fire hose to pipe freshwater to our tanks and wash the decks down to get rid of the salt encrustation. I was tired, irritable and in dire need of a "tubs" (shower). A woman, with a obviously henpecked husband in tow, approached me.She asked brusquely; "Why can't you stop illegal immigrants getting through, don't you look for them?"I looked out toward the ocean, looked at her, looked at the husband then looked back out to sea, and replied; "There is a f##king lot of water out there lady."So just to reiterate Rick as to where HMAS Sydney is, there is a lot of f##cking water out there mate. Tiger-pie Posted May 22, 2007 Author Posted May 22, 2007 Is that another bit of one of the Japanese midget subs in the Seahorse cafe Johnsy ???BobI think it is a part of a sub Bob, but I'm not sure if it was Japanese or not. I will take a look next time I go for a walk down that way, I only live a couple of km's away. I still have to take a few more photos of the exterior area and a couple more interior shots.Regards;Johnsy
